New Spirit Marks Help Launch 2006-07 Basketball Season

New Jaguar Spirit Marks

INDIANAPOLIS – Triplets have been born into the family of IUPUI Jaguar spirit marks: three new choices for IUPUI’s schools and programs to use when expressing their “Jaguar pride.”

The new marks will help IUPUI schools promote their spirit activities, merchandise, giveaways and spirit publications.

“After five years of use our existing marks, we felt it was time to update our spirit image,” said Troy Brown, executive director of the Office of Communications and Marketing. “We also wanted new marks that are compatible with our updated mascot Jinx and our new game-night mascot, Jawz.”

The updating project parallels Indiana University’s ongoing integrated image campaign.

The new spirit marks are additions to the family, not replacements for the existing marks. The new marks, all in four-color format, include:

  • A three-quarter view of the Jaguar head;
  • An additional primary mark that also is a three-quarter view, containing the Jaguars’ name, the name of the campus and the illustration itself; and
  • Another version of the Jaguars wordmark.

For those with questions about the new marks or the integrated image campaign, email Brown at tdbrown@iupui.edu.

In 1998, IUPUI changed its official nickname from the Metros to the Jaguars, a key part of a dynamic major change of direction for the IUPUI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

At the same time, IUPUI joined the Mid-Continent Conference and moved from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I. The Jaguar was chosen because it represents the spirit of IUPUI: powerful, swift and confident. It reflects the energized spirit of our urban institution.
