University College Building To Be Named for Joseph Taylor
| |
Joseph T. Taylor |
The building housing IUPUI's University College will be named for Joseph T. Taylor, announced IUPUI Chancellor Charles Bantz, who proposed the commemorative renaming in honor of the man who served as dean of the Indianapolis Regional Campus from 1967 to 1970 (pre-IUPUI) and as the first dean of the newly established IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI (1970-1978).
Chancellor Charles R. Bantz |
|
"Because he was instrumental in implementing the merger that led to the establishment of IUPUI, it is fitting that his name be attached to one of the original buildings," Bantz said. "As an African American, Dr. Taylor was a pioneer at every stage of his academic career. He infused that can-do spirit and ability to break new ground into the very core of what has made IUPUI successful today."

High School Students Get Creative in IUPUI Computer Programming Contest
Given some number of occupants, what is the probability that two people in the same room have the same birthday? You might take a guess, using your life experiences. Or, better yet, you might write a computer program to deliver a more exact answer. That's exactly what area students who competed in the IUPUI High School Computer Programming Contest did.
Fifty-one students from 10 high schools participated in the second annual contest, which was hosted by IUPUI's Department of Computer and Information Science. Students were presented with 10 programming problems and given four hours to write the programs. They were judged by the speed with which they completed the programs, and how the programs conformed to the specifications of the problems. Students competed in teams of two members.
