Law School and Professor López Receive Rabb Emison Awards

Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis Professor Maria Pabon Lopez was honored at the recent Indiana State Bar Annual Meeting as the individual recipient of the Rabb Emison Award, which recognizes an individual who has demonstrated commitment to promote diversity and/or equality in the legal profession.

Appleby Presents Keynote Address at Psych Conference

IUPUI Psychology Professor Drew Appleby presented the keynote address at the Beginnings and Endings: Best Practices for Introducing and Bringing Closure to the Undergraduate Psychology Major Conference in Atlanta on Oct. 12. The title of his presentation was "Four Developmental Stages of Undergraduate Psychology Majors: Surviving, Thriving, Striving, and Arriving."

The focus of this conference was on strategies to create success for psychology majors from their orientation to the major to their capstone course. Appleby created a 500-page book on a CD that contained a collection of strategies he has used during his 36-year career to help students traverse these stages successfully and gave a copy of this CD to each of the 200 conference attendees.

Halstead and Jeffries selected as Fellows into the National League for Nursing (NLN)

Judith A. Halstead (left), DNS, RN and Pamela R. Jeffries, DNS, RN, FAAN were formally inducted as Fellows into the National League for Nursing (NLN) Academy of Nursing Education on September 29, 2007 during the NLN Education Summit Phoenix, Arizona. This was the inaugural class of 41 fellows, representing 33 schools of nursing throughout the United States into the Academy. The fellows, selected by the NLN Board of Governors, the oversight body for the Academy, have been chosen for their sustained and significant contributions to the field of nursing education.

Does Indiana need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission?

Dr. Jim Loewen, the author of "Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your High School History Textbook Got Wrong" and also "Lies Across America," will address the issue of whether a truth and reconciliation commission would be beneficial during a presentation at 5:30 p.m. Monday, November 12, in University Library, Room 1126.

Downtown Indianapolis at night 
Residents Give Indianapolis High Marks Overall; Downtown Safety Gets Lower Results

Overall, Indianapolis residents who participated in a survey conducted by the IUPUI Department of Tourism, Conventions and Event Management gave their health, lifestyle, and city high marks.

Downtown Indianapolis received a lower mark when it came to how residents perceive how safe they are there after dark. Perceptions about nighttime safety downtown have slipped for three consecutive years.

'IU-Notify' project enhanced for emergency notifications

Indiana University is urging students, faculty and staff at all IU campuses to immediately update personal contact information using a new, self-service tool easily accessible through OneStart. The information would be used for notification in the event of an emergency on any IU campus.

IUPUI Receives $749,933 National Science Foundation Grant for Science Teacher Education Program

Science educators in the School of Science and the IU School of Education at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) have announced that they have been awarded one of 16 competitive National Science Foundation (NSF) Robert Noyce Scholarship grants to encourage undergraduate science students to become high school or middle school teachers. The 4-year grant will fund scholarships worth up to $12,200 per year for up to two years to 30 students in the School of Science in an attempt to meet the statewide demand for science teachers in Indiana. Noyce Scholars commit to teaching at least two years in an urban or high-need school district after graduation.

Works of Hope and Healing 
Works of Hope and Healing Reception

Herron School of Art and Design, the Wishard Foundation and the Wishard Pharmacy Department are pleased to announce "Works of Hope and Healing," a collection of Herron student art inspired by the students’ observations and interactions at Wishard Hospital.

An exhibit reception will be held at 6 p.m. today (Friday, Nov. 9, 2007) in the Marsh Gallery at Herron. The reception is free and open to the public.

Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis Grads Become Deputy Attorneys General

Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis graduates Amber Degenhart, Joseph Delamater, and Myron Rahn became Deputy Attorneys General for the State of Indiana today (Nov. 5, 2007) at a swearing-in ceremony officiated by Attorney General Steve Carter. All three Deputy Attorneys General graduated in May from the law school which is located on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus.

Dan Coats to Speak at IU School of Law-Indianapolis

Dan Coats, former U.S. Senator from Indiana, and former U.S. Ambassador to Germany, will present “The Changing Role of the US Ambassador to Germany in a Post-9/11 World” at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, in Wynne Courtroom of the IU School of Law-Indianapolis building.

A reception will be held following the lecture at 6 p.m. in Conour Atrium.
