Herron School of Art and Design VisualFringe Exhibition Opening

Herron School of Art and Design will be one of six galleries participating in VisualFringe in conjunction with the IndyFringe Festival. The Herron School of Art and Design VisualFringe Exhibition will open from 5:30pm until 9pm, Friday, August 3rd, and thereafter be open from 3pm to 9 pm on weekends through Sunday, September 2nd. The best of Herron's faculty, alumni, and students will share their artwork while collaborating with fellow arts organizations.

Healthy Families Indiana Day at Zoo to Bring Smiles, Help Strengthen Families

More than 1,200 children and their parents participating in the Healthy Families Indiana program in Indianapolis will be treated to a free day at the Indianapolis Zoo, thanks to Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana.

Families from the four Healthy Families Indiana sites will have a fun day at the zoo, a luxury normally beyond their reach.

"A day at the zoo is an ideal way to strengthen the bond between parents and children," said Ann Johnson, program manager for the IU School of Nursing MOM Project Healthy Families. "We appreciate Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana for helping us strengthen families in our community."
Starbuck and Gleaners Food Bank also contributed bottled water and snacks for the families to enjoy during their outing.

Biracial Sisterhood Laid Groundwork for Civil Rights Movement

A new book by Nancy Marie Robertson of the School of Liberal Arts of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis explores how the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA), the nation's major national biracial women's organization, provided a unique venue for women to respond to American race relations during the first half of the twentieth century and laid the groundwork for the subsequent civil rights movement. Dr. Robertson is an associate professor of history and philanthropic studies and also directs the women's studies program.
