Magazine Features Professor Barrows’ History of Lockefield Gardens

In this month's issue of Indiana Magazine of History, Robert G. Barrows, chair of the Department of History in the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI, meticulously reconstructs the local origins of the Indianapolis neighborhood that came to be known as Lockefield Gardens.

IUPUI Informatics Professor to Lead Proteomics Research Team

Using high-speed computer networks and Indiana University's supercomputer, a team of researchers from IU and Purdue University will be contributing to an open-source bioinformatics software platform development project in proteomics (the study of the structure and function of proteins), thanks to a $25,000 bioinformatics research award from the Canary Foundation. The San Jose-based foundation's slogan is "stopping cancer early", and it awards funding for cancer-related research to accelerate realization of that goal.

Healthcare Reform Town Hall Forum Slated for Indianapolis

What is to be done about rising healthcare costs?

Indiana University healthcare experts wants to hear views about that question and other healthcare issues from Marion County residents and residents in surrounding areas during a Healthcare Reform Town Hall Forum at 7:30 p.m. June 18, 2007. Jones Headed to Student Affairs at Northern Illinois

IUPUI Assistant Vice Chancellor and Associate Dean of Students John R. Jones III has accepted the position of associate vice president for student affairs at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill.

IUPUI Partnership Helps Keep Campus and Home Utility Rates Down

As summer weather kicks in, so does the demand and cost for energy to run fans and air conditioning systems to help us beat the heat.

An IUPUI partnership with Indianapolis Power and Light is helping to keep down the costs of staying cool both at home and at work, Campus Facility Services administrators say.

The campus saved $32,000 last summer under an IPL energy management program that credits IUPUI for electricity produced by emergency diesel generators on campus.

Normally the emergency generators would only operate in the event of a loss of power.

IUPUI senior men's golfer Justin Wenger (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) has been voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA), on the at-large ballot. He becomes just the second IUPUI student-athlete to earn First Team All-America honors, joining former women's basketball standout Tiffany Kyser, who was chosen in 2002-03.

Outrun the Sun

More than 2,000 runners and walkers participated in the third annual Outrun the Sun Race Against Melanoma on Saturday, June 2 on the IUPUI campus. Participants and their families enjoyed music, food and a kiddie run after the main race. Jinx the Jaguar was even on hand to cheers the kids on in their events!
