Morris Receives Bepko Community Medallion

The IUPUI Senior Academy recently presented the second Gerald L. Bepko Community Medallion to James T. Morris, former executive director of the United Nations World Food Program.

Named after former IUPUI Chancellor Gerald L. Bepko, the award, created in 2003, honors a person who has made a significant and ongoing commitment to strengthening the bonds between IUPUI and the community. The 3-inch Bepko medallion bears the image of Bepko on one side, and the recipient's name, date and citation on the other side. The first medallion was presented to Bepko in 2003.

Morris, an IU alumnus, has served as chairman of several corporate boards, and is a former chairman of the IU Board of Trustees...

Halter Appointed as IBDC Chair

The Indiana Business Diversity Council has appointed Robert J. Halter, IUPUI’s director of purchasing services, as chairman.

The primary mission of the IBDC is to educate, promote, and cultivate successful minority enterprises within the Indiana business community.

Halter is the representative for IUPUI with the IBDC. He has served as senior vice chair and secretary of the board and chairman of the certification committee.

Halter also represents IUPUI with the Indianapolis Black and Hispanic Chambers of Commerce and serves on the Executive Committee of the Corporate Alliance for Historically Underutilized Small Businesses in Indiana.

Social Work, Labor Studies To Merge

The IU Division of Labor Studies will merge with the IU School of Social Work, effective July 1, 2007, announced Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Chancellor Charles R. Bantz.

Bantz said he concurred with a transition team's opinion that the compatible missions of the two academic units will make for unique opportunities for collaborative teaching, research and service.

The academic mission of the Division of Labor Studies, the organizational structure of the division, its operations on six IU campuses, and its possible merger into a school have been under consideration since 2005.

Under the merger, the School of Social Work will assume the fiscal and administrative authority for the Division of Labor Studies...

Healthcare Reform Town Hall Forums Slated Across Indiana

What is to be done about rising healthcare costs?

Indiana University healthcare experts at IUPUI want to hear views about that question and other healthcare issues from Hoosiers during nine Healthcare Reform Town Hall Forums that will be held across the state.

The forums, conducted by an IU workgroup, are part of an effort to study potential reforms in healthcare delivery in Indiana. IUPUI Racing Takes First Place Trophy at Inaugural Competition

In its first full-fledged competition, "IUPUI Racing" came home with the first-place trophy.

The No. 72 Jaguar race car, completely designed and built by IUPUI engineering technology students, roared to first place during the Sports Car Club of America's Spring Sprints at O'Reilly Raceway Park last month.
