National Expert on Patient Safety to Keynote Annual Event

A nationally recognized expert in rehabilitation nursing and patient safety, Patricia A. Quigley, PhD, ARNP, CRRN, the Deputy Director of the VISN 8 Patient Safety Center of Inquiry, James A. Haley VA Medical Center, Tampa, Florida, will be the distinguished lecturer at the Sixth Annual Sonna Ehrlich Merk Distinguished Lectureship on Friday, March 3, 2006.

Give Kids a Smile Day
IU School of Dentistry Is Key Treatment Site for National “Give Kids a Smile”

Volunteer dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants from the Indianapolis area joined forces with IU School of Dentistry students, faculty, and staff to provide free dental care to underserved children at the dental school on Feb. 3, during the American Dental Association's “Give Kids a Smile Day.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly half of U.S. children ages 2-9 suffer from untreated tooth decay.

Thomas J. Davis Will Be “Reading At The Table”

Thomas J. Davis will present a new twist on the University Faculty Club’s popular “Reading at the Table” lunch series. He will read on Thursday, February 23, from the first novel so honored, his “The Aluminum Christmas Tree.” All faculty and staff are welcome.

The cost for the lunch buffet is $10. Only checks or JagTag with activated payroll deduction will be accepted for payment.

Davis will sign books for lunch guests. Guests can bring a personal copy of the book for signing, or purchase a copy at the luncheon for $15.99 plus tax.

IUPUI Solution Center Awards $325,000 in Grants to Hoosier Businesses and Organizations

As part of its ongoing commitment to increase the number of highly trained and degreed professionals in the state, the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Solution Center has awarded $325,000 in grants from its Community Venture Fund to 49 Indiana small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies over the last six months of 2005.
