For a presentation last month, IU School of Law-Indianapolis Associate Professor Jennifer Drobac came dressed as Clara Shortridge Foltz, the first woman to practice law on the West Coast. Foltz, born in Lafayette, Indiana, passed the oral exam to become an attorney in California in 1878. Drobac, as Foltz, discussed the pioneering attorney's personal life and legal practice. Her presentation was part of a new series - "Famous Lawyers and Judges" - sponsored by law school faculty.
SHALOM HEALTH CARE CENTER TO BECOME NOT-FOR-PROFIT AGENCY
Shalom Health Care Center, a vital source of health care for medically underserved neighborhoods in Indianapolis, will become an independent not-for-profit agency on Jan. 1, 2003. Shalom began nine years ago as an IU School of Nursing (IUSON) clinic at Broadway United Methodist Church in the Mapleton-Fall Creek community.

FORMER VICE CHANCELLOR AND DEAN SCHALLER DIES
Former IUPUI Executive Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculties Howard Schaller died Dec. 4 after sustaining a traumatic injury as the result of a fall at home. Schaller, professor emeritus of business economics and public policy in the IU Kelley School of Business, was 80.
