LABOR STUDIES DIVISION AT IUPUI DETAILS PLANS FOR UNION ORGANIZING SUMMIT
Hundreds of workers, union members and officials from Indiana and across the Midwest are coming to Indianapolis for one reason: to launch successful union organizing campaigns when they return home.

INDIANA UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF NURSING TO HOST OPEN HOUSE FOR REGISTERED NURSES
Registered nurses (RNs) who seek careers as nursing administrators, educators, scientists, clinical nurse specialists, or nurse practitioners are invited to explore academic opportunities during an informal open house Thursday, Nov. 14, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Indiana University School of Nursing (IUSON) on the IUPUI campus. Those in attendance can learn what it takes to earn one of 12 Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) degrees or a PhD in nursing. Brief presentations will be held at 4 and 5 p.m. to discuss admission requirements, program criteria, and other information. Light refreshments will be provided.

HEALTH AND BENEFITS FAIR
Human Resources Administration will host a combined health and benefits fair on Monday, Oct. 28. This first-time event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second floor of the University Place Conference Center.

Representatives from many IU health care specialty areas will provide valuable health and fitness information. They will offer many free health screenings such as blood pressure checks, body composition measurements, lung capacity, glaucoma screenings, oral cancer screenings, mole screenings, osteoporosis screenings and more. Flu shots will be available from 10 a.m. to noon. Massages will also be available.

In addition, individuals representing the various Indiana University benefit plans will be available to answer questions and provide information to help employees maximize the value of their benefits.

The fair will also include educational workshops on a variety of topics including retirement investing, the PERF retirement plan, the tax saver benefit plan, women's health issues and yoga. Other workshop topics include surviving the stress of the holidays, preparing quick and easy healthy meals, preventing identity theft, and maximizing your energy.

Many exhibitors will have free giveaways. A drawing for door prizes will be held at 2 p.m.

HERRON ACCEPTING DAMAGED PHOTOS FOR RESTORATION PROJECT
Herron School of Art photography students at IUPUI will offer free restoration services to anyone who had photographs damaged in September's tornadoes. Under a recently formed community service group called Art from the Ashes (AftA), the damaged photographs will be scanned, repaired and printed out on glossy photo paper in their original size. Student photographers will attempt to make the photos look as close to their previous, undamaged states as possible, and return the restored artwork by mid December.

ENGAGE IN THE SPIRIT OF GIVING; START COLLECTING FOOD FOR JAM THE BUS NOW
Once again, students, staff and faculty are encouraged to bring as many non-perishable items to campus for Jam the Bus on Nov. 19. You can start by collecting items such as cereal, canned food and juices in your offices and schools the next few weeks. Between noon and 1 p.m., Nov. 19, bring these items to the University College Courtyard - to Jam the Bus - from the floor on up!

In addition to Jam the Bus, there will other related food drives on campus, including drop-offs at IUPUI Jaguar basketball games.

Here are some ideas on how you can make a difference:

1. Organize a food drive within your school, office, organization and set out boxes to collect food until Nov. 19 - the day of Jam the Bus.

2. Donate a non-perishable item at the Jaguar men's basketball game on Nov. 12 or the Jaguar women's basketball game on Nov. 16 and receive free admission. (Both games begin at 7 p.m.)

3. Donate a bag of non-perishable items at the IUPUI Bookstore from Nov. 11 to Nov. 16 and receive a 25 percent discount on apparel or gift items with the university logo.

4. Bring donations to University College Courtyard from noon to 1 p.m. on Nov. 19 to 'Jam the Bus' with food.

5. Buy a seat on the bus by donating $50 to one of the benefiting charities. Mail donations to the IUPUI Community Outreach Office, 355 N. Lansing St., AO 136, Indianapolis, IN 46202. Checks can be made out to the following charities: Antioch Missionary Baptist, Christ Emmanuel Missionary Church, Christamore House, Damien Center, Dayspring Center, Gleaners Food Bank, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Julian Center, Lighthouse Mission, Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, Washington Street Presbyterian Church, Wheeler Mission Ministries.

Non-perishable items that will be accepted include: canned fruits and vegetables; prepackaged cereal, coffee, rice or pasta; and personal hygiene items, such as toothpaste, soap and diapers.
