Advanced drawing students from Herron School of Art brighten an IUPUI corridor with a 147-foot public mural.

Herron Students to Design Community Partnership Mural in IUPUI Corridor
Advanced drawing students from IUPUI’s Herron School of Art will design a public mural at one of the university’s most heavily traveled corridors. The mural, which will span 147 feet, will celebrate community partnerships with five neighboring institutions, including: Eiteljorg Museum, Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis Urban League, the Hispanic Center and the Madame Walker Theatre.

Capt. Skip Theberge, Technical Information Specialist of NOAA and retired captain of NOAA Corps, is shown standing next to the Peirce Geodetic Monument. Capt. Theberge captained the CSS Peirce. Theberge, along with NASA scientist Kamlesh Lulla, were guest speakers for the dedication of the Peirce Monument plaque.

Named in honor of the mathematician and philosopher Charles S. Peirce, the Peirce Geodetic Monument is located on the southeast corner of the quadrangle between the University College, Education/Social Work and Lecture Hall buildings at IUPUI. It is part of NOAA’s national network of geodetic markers used as reference points for boundary and property surveys, mapping and charting, and similar functions.

The monument was funded by the National Geodetic Survey and NOAA.

Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, the subject of the film “The Hurricane” recently was a guest speaker at the IU School of Law-Indianapolis. Academy Award winner Denzel Washington portrayed Carter in the movie about Carter who was convicted of three murders and later released from prison after a federal judge overturned the convictions.

IU Trustees approve 4 percent tuition increase for 2004-05
NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Indiana University trustees today (April 2) approved a 4 percent increase in tuition for Hoosier students in undergraduate, graduate and professional programs at all IU campuses. Combined increases in tuition and mandatory fees at IU campuses other than Bloomington range from 3.7 percent to 4 percent.
