KING DAY VOLUNTEERS
IUPUI senior Cassandra Giles (above) was among the 155 IUPUI staff, faculty, students and others who participated in the third annual campus "Day-On" held in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The volunteers traveled to 13 community service organizations across the city where they performed various services from mulching trees at Martin Luther King Park to painting at the Atkins Boys & Girls Club and serving lunch at Wheeler Mission. The community service projects were sponsored by the Center for Service and Learning, Student Life and Diversity Programs, and the Dean of Faculties.

IUPUI BEGINS FREE OFF-SITE PARKING
IUPUI's Parking Services is launching free off-site parking at Bush Stadium. An express shuttle will quickly move people to campus and back to the parking site from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Security will also be provided at the site.

WATT SCORES 1,000th CAREER POINT

     
Senior Guard Angie Watt joins a select group of 14 other players in IUPUI women's basketball history. She scored her 1,000th career point Saturday in a game against Oakland University, becoming only the 15th women's team player to do so. Her career total of 1,001 points leaves her just five points shy of 14th place.

SCHOOL OF LIBERAL ARTS AND THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM FORM CHILDREN'S THEATER PARTNERSHIP
A newly formed partnership between the Indianapolis Children's Museum and the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI will promote the growth of children's theater on campus and at the museum. The result will be bigger and better children's theater in Indianapolis.

STUDY BY IUPUI PROFESSORS CONTESTS WIDELY HELD THEORY ABOUT BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS OF CHILDREN WITH EPILEPSY
A new study indicates that behavior problems of children with epilepsy such as difficulty paying attention and thinking are part of the disease. It has been commonly thought that these problems develop after the onset of the disease and as a reaction to the disease and its treatment.

31st ANNUAL KING DAY DINNER
Guest speaker BET talk show host Tavis Smiley challenged listeners during the 31st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dinner sponsored by the IUPUI Black Student Union at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. This year's theme was "Advocacy: Dr. King's Influence in the 21st Century." About 600 people, including Congresswoman Julia Carson, attended the sold-out event that included the presentation of several awards. Past BSU president Starla Hart presented the Advocate of the Dream Award to Chancellor Gerald Bepko in honor of Bepko's work in promoting diversity efforts among IUPUI staff, faculty and students. Arlington High School Principal Jackie Greenwood was named the recipient of the Drum Major Instinct Award. Student scholarship awards were presented to Cassandra Giles who received the Dr. Joseph T. Taylor Academic Award and Nicole Hobbs who received the I Have A Dream Award.
