Reception Honors Outstanding IUPUI Women

More than 100 IUPUI women were recognized at the Sixth Annual Women's History Month Leadership Reception held March 31 in University College.

Seventy-eight faculty and staff women received either Outstanding Female Faculty or Outstanding Staff Leaders awards. In addition, 40 students were recognized as Outstanding Female Student Leaders.

Keynote speakers for the event were Joyce Cannon, Valerie Eickmeier and Kathy Johnson. The speakers were selected based on their exceptional contributions to IUPUI and the greater Indianapolis community.



  

Capstone Town Hall Meeting

"Magnets, Mountaintops, and Mandates: Models for Capstones at IUPUI" is the topic for the Capstone Town Hall from noon - 1:15 p.m., Monday, April 7 in the Lilly Auditorium of University Library. The event is sponsored by the Capstone Faculty Learning Community.

IT Training & Education host Infoshare Workshops

This month, IT Training & Education at IUPUI will host two more technical Infoshare workshops. Infoshare: High Performance Computing at IUPUI is scheduled from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 16 in BS 3003. Infoshare: Polycom Videoconferencing is scheduled from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Thursday, April 24 in UL 1116.

During the High Performance Computing workshop, the Common File System and the Massive Data Storage System will be discussed. These storage infrastructures support teaching, research and administrative computing. During the Polycom Videoconferencing workshop, participants will earn how to use Polycom videoconferencing units. The Infoshare workshops are free, but advance registration is recommended. Native American Chief, Cultural Bearer to visit IUPUI campus

Dee Ketchum, ceremonial chief of the Delaware Tribe of Oklahoma, and Annette Ketchu, Lenape culture bearer, are visiting the IUPUI campus this month to participate in several class presentations and a brown bag lunch discussion. Their visit coincides with the WFYI broadcast of the "Long Journey Home: The Delawares of Indiana" at 9 p.m. on April 10.

The guest speakers will attend the A104 class taught by Robert Kasberg at 6 p.m., Monday, April 7, and the anthropology class taught by Ken Barger at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 8.

As part of the Student Life and Diversity Program's Edutainment Series, the pair will also participate in a brown bag lunch discussion on "Peace" at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday April 8.

"10-Minute Meals" Workshop

Are you constantly on the run? Dashing to class? Zipping off to a child's soccer game? Running over to the church for a meeting?

Then you will not want to miss the free "10-Minute Meals" workshop offered by HRA Work/Life and NIFS. The session will run from noon - 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, May 13 in Room 245 of the IU School of Law-Indianapolis building.

IUPUI staff, students and faculty are invited to attend the workshop and learn how to make quick, nutritious and tasty meals. Small samples for tasting will be available. Participants are invited to bring their own lunch or purchase a box lunch by calling (317) 274-5157 a week to two days before the workshop.

IUPUI Coach To Run Individual Instruction Basketball Camp

Attention!!! Boys and girls ages 5-17 can sign up now for the Ron Hunter Individual Instruction Camp to be held from June 23 - 27 at Crispus Attucks Middle School, 1140 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. Camp hours are from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily.

Ron Hunter, head men's basketball coach of the IUPUI Jaguars, directs this exciting one-week basketball camp for youth of all ability levels. The Ron Hunter camp emphasizes basketball basics, dribbling, shooting, defense, passing and rebounding. Participants also get a chance to practice what they've learned in daily scrimmage games.

In addition to improving their game, campers will enjoy interacting with local high school and college coaches and players, along with special guest professional basketball coaches and players. Daily life skills presentations will feature Indiana Pacers Head Coach Isiah Thomas, Marcus Pollard of the Indianapolis Colts, NBA Player Ron Harper, and WNBA Players as guest speakers.

The cost is $165 per child. Families registering three of more children will receive a 15 percent discount.

Participate in March of Dimes "WalkAmerica 2003"

It's not too late to sign up for WalkAmerica 2003, the 33rd annual March of Dimes fund-raiser dedicated to saving babies. The Indianapolis WalkAmerica will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 27 at the Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium on the IUPUI campus. Check-in time for walkers is 10 a.m.

Captains are assigned to coordinate teams representing several schools or departments on campus. For the name of your school's or department's team captain, please call Janie Sue Dubbs, state director of WalkAmerica, at (317) 262-4668.
