Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, who made a special visit to IUPUI's campus to meet with university leaders and conduct a Town Hall forum with students to discuss the future of clean energy.

Secretary Chu's visit came about following an announcement in September that the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI would receive a $1.3 million grant from the Department of Energy to train undergraduate- and graduate-level students in manufacturing efficiency as part of the DOE's Industrial Assessment Center program.

Work of Appellate Clinic Students Pays Off for Clients

Two Robert H. McKinney School of Law students enrolled in the law school's Appellate Clinic recently won reversals for their clients.

Emily Shrock (3L) represented a 13-year-old girl found delinquent for burglary, theft, and carrying a handgun without a license after her parent's home was burglarized. She argued the case before a three-judge panel of the Indiana Court of Appeals in December. In a published opinion, the Court found insufficient evidence to support the handgun offense and found the trial court erred in admitting hearsay evidence.
