John Krauss's recent appointment by Governor Mitch Daniels to serve on the Indiana Education Employment Relations Board is an excellent example of the service many faculty provide to state agencies by lending their expertise as researchers and consultants. As a lawyer and expert in alternative dispute resolution, John has been a member of the board's Ad-hoc Panel of Mediators and Fact Finders since 1991 and is also director of the Indiana Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations.

Assistant Vice Chancellor for Auxiliary Services Named

Kate Julius has been selected as IUPUI Assistant Vice Chancellor for Auxiliary Services. Julius will assume her new role on November 21, 2011.

Auxiliary Services encompasses many units, including Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium, Center for Young Children, IU Natatorium, Mail Services, Bookstore, IUPUI Food Service, IKON and University Place Conference Center and Hotel.

Broome, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean and distinguished professor, Indiana University School of Nursing (IUSON), was selected as an Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ) 2011 Woman of Influence for her professional excellence and leadership in her career and community service. Broome, one of 17 Women of Influence for 2011, was honored at a recognition breakfast on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom.

Lugar Center Director Receives 35th Patent for Department of Defense Work

Dr. Peter Schubert—recently appointed director to the Lugar Center for Renewable Energy—has hit the ground running at IUPU. On Nov 1, the USPTO granted Patent 8,046,946— Dr. Schubert's 35th Patent and his first in the field of firearms. The patent was granted on November 1st; just two weeks after Dr. Schubert began at his new appointment at IUPUI. Dr. Schubert's newest patent gains exposure for both the School and IUPUI on a global level.

Dr. Jeff Sperring Named New Riley Hospital President & CEO

Jeff Sperring

Jeff Sperring, M.D., has been named president and chief executive officer of Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health.

Dr. Sperring, who is an assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine, joined IU Health in 2002 and has served as chief medical officer of Riley at IU Health since 2009.

IUPUI Police Urge Common Sense Precautions When Buying From Craigslist

The overwhelming majority of Craigslist users are trustworthy and well-intentioned. The incidence of violent crime related to Craigslist has been extremely low.

However, IUPUI Police say that is not to say a violent crime can't or won't happen to an unsuspecting victim when dealing with an unknown person on Craigslist, such as the recent case involving an IUPUI student.
