Dear Colleagues: At the Indiana University Board of Trustees meeting today, the Trustees approved the tuition rates and budgets for the coming biennium. The new rates can be found on Friday, July 17 at www.osas.iupui.edu.
The budget plan for the 2009-10 academic year contains spending restrictions including the budget line for each newly vacated biweekly and professional position will be cut by 50% and each unit’s FY10 general fund travel budget will be cut by 50%. Additional specific information will be forthcoming in the near future. Information on budgets will be sent to schools and units shortly.

The Indiana University Board of Trustees today (July 16) adopted a budget plan for the 2009-10 academic year that includes several belt-tightening measures but still allows for increases in student financial aid on all campuses and provides funding to fill more than 100 faculty positions deemed critical to the university's academic mission.

RFID Research Paper Recognized by AAMI

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) recently honored an IUPUI professor and fellow researchers for their work on adapting radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to a clinical application.
Barbara Christe, program director of biomedical engineering technology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), along with colleagues and IUPUI student researchers, received AAMI's 2008 Outstanding Management & Technology Paper award.

Back-To-School Supplies Benefit Drive

For thousands of children in Indianapolis, the first day of school will be long on excitement but short on supplies. A program called BackPack Attack was created 10 years ago to assist with the collection of necessary school supplies. The 2009 goal is to provide a half million supplies to the children of Indianapolis and IPS. The drive runs through Aug. 7, 2009. New Tuition Rates Are Below Higher Education Commission Guidelines
Indiana University trustees today (July 16) approved tuition and fee rates for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years that are in keeping with all guidelines set by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.
The new fee schedule calls for in-state undergraduate tuition and fees to go up by 4.6 percent this year and 4.8 percent next year at IU Bloomington and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. At IU's five regional campuses, in-state undergraduate tuition will go up 4.4 and 4.6 percent respectively in the next two years.

IUPUI faculty and staff have about two weeks left to submit nominations for the Glenn W. Irwin, Jr. M.D. Experience Excellence Recognition Award which honors faculty and staff members for service "above and beyond the call of duty." The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. on Aug. 7, 2009.
