Annual Civic Engagement Showcase, April 7
The IUPUI Center for Service and Learning is pleased to announce the second annual Showcase on Civic Engagement will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in the University Place Hotel Ballroom, 850 W. Michigan St.
This year's showcase will feature the 2008 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Civic Engagement recipients as well as, the presentation of the William M. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion.

Archaeology of Prostitution at Ancient Delos
Professor Nicholas Rauh, Ph. D., Purdue University, will present "The Archaeology of Prostitution at Ancient Delos" at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009, in the Ruth Lilly Auditorium, University Library.
Rauh's illustrated lecture presents evidence to reinterpret some of the best-preserved houses of the Greek and Roman world and to shed light on an often unspoken aspect of ancient life. Content may not be suitable for children.
This event is sponsored by the Program in Classical Studies (WLAC), Anthro Club, and Archaeological Institute of America.

Call for Papers for Academic Exchange Quarterly
Academic Exchange Quarterly, a peer reviewed journal that publishes articles related to effective teaching and learning, has issued a call for papers for its Winter 2009 issue on "Educational Technologies: Innovations, Experiences and Outcomes." Deadline for submission is the end of August.
This issue explores research and practice related to educational technologies. How are innovative technologies being used in education, and with what effects? If you are using educational technologies or are conducting research in this area, consider submitting an article. Case studies, experiences, and conclusions based on data are welcome. Submissions are typically 2000-3000 words (approx. 6-7 single spaced pages).

Celebrating IUPUI/Latino Community Partner Impact
Sponsored by the IU School of Education at Indianapolis, Angela Valenzuela, Ph.D., will lead a discussion about celebrating IUPUI/Latino community partner impact from 1 to 5 p.m., on April 30, 2009 at the IUPUI Campus Center.
Valenzuela is currently a professor at the University of Texas in both the cultural studies in education program within the Department of Curriculum & Instruction and the educational policy and planning program within the Department of Educational Administration. She has written extensively about Latino educational issues and actively advocates for Latino communities and youth at the Texas statehouse and beyond.
On April 30, Valenzuela will share information pertaining to the education of Latino/a immigrant youth. A discussion panel will follow Valenzuela's presentation and will include community partners such as La Plaza.

Impact IUPUI Campaign Extended
Impact IUPUI, the annual giving campaign for IUPUI staff and faculty, has been extended to April 30, 2009. If you have not yet had the opportunity to make your gift, there's still plenty of time.

Safe Opportunities for Disposal of Toxic and Electronic Waste
If you are looking for a safe, responsible means to dispose of toxic and electronic waste, two upcoming events may meet your needs.
Members of the IUPUI community can dispose of personal and household toxic waste, including some electronic waste, on Tox Away Day on April 17, 2009. Visit the Tox Away Day Web site (http://www.cfs.iupui.edu/recycle/toxaway.php) for additional information.
The general public, including businesses, nonprofits, educational institutions and individuals, may dispose of electronic waste during the IU and IUPUI Electronic Waste Collection Days on April 30 through May 2. The IUPUI community may also use these days to dispose of personal electronics. Visit www.indiana.poweron.com for additional information.
IUPUI staff or faculty members should not dispose of university property during either the Tox Away Day or Electronic Waste Collection Days. Staff or faculty members looking to dispose of electronic waste that is the property of the university, can arrange for pick up of those items by completing the IUPUI Surplus Form found at http://www.purchasing.iupui.edu/docs/SurplusForm4_2008.doc and faxing the form to 317-274-7488. The IUPUI Surplus office can be reached by calling 274-7753 or visiting http://www.purchasing.iupui.edu/surplus/.

Post 9/11 GI Bill Information Session
The IUPUI Office of the Registrar and the student group Veterans@IUPUI will co-host a presentation on the new Chapter 33 GI Bill from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009. Anyone that would like to know more about the new GI Bill, which will become effective August 1, 2009, is encouraged to attend.
