The customized header is one component of the Department Web Template.

Creating the header

Header graphics must be created and approved by the Office of Communications & Marketing. Request your header graphic

Header components

Website Name

Your website's name — usually, your department name — is embedded in the graphic, utilizing the official serif font of IU's Visual Identity Initiative.

• Names of virtually any length are supported
• Long names may be displayed in a two-line format
• For the benefit of your site's visitors, it is highly recommended that acronyms be avoided. The header is designed with ample space for long names.
• If you must include the acronym, consider a format such as "ACRONYM: Acronym spelled out"

Background Color

Select one of six background colors:

• Crimson
  
• Dark Gray
  
• Gold
  
• Midnight
  
• Olive
  
• Leather
  

Optional: Background image

The background image adds subtle richness and texture to your page; it is not intended to be an obvious visual element. In addition to photography, backgrounds could be abstract, such as a pattern.

Samples, presented in the Crimson background color:

• You may choose other backgrounds. The Office of Communications & Marketing will assist in the selection of images which work as backgrounds.
• Background image composition will be adjusted according to the length of the website name, photography selections, and other factors.
• Background photos should be of subjects at IUPUI — actual IUPUI students, faculty, staff, buildings, objects, etc.

Optional: Photography

Three images of your choosing can be added to the header.

• Photos should be of subjects at IUPUI — actual IUPUI students, faculty, staff, buildings, objects, etc. The IUPUI Photo Gallery has thousands of photos you may choose from.
• Image selections may be maintained by the website's webmaster using standard HTML. Thus, the images can be changed at any time by the department. These are not physically part of the header graphic.

Stock options

The following photos have been pre-selected by the Office of Communications & Marketing. Again, you may choose to select other photos; these are simply presented for your convenience.
