Center of Hope
In conjunction with the Marion County Prosecutor’s office in the mid-1990’s, Wishard opened one of Indianapolis’ original three Centers of Hope, bringing a specialized method of care delivery to victims of sexual assault. Staffed by forensically trained health care professionals (nurses, social workers, physicians), this special group of patients is seen in a separate area of the Wishard emergency room, affording them privacy and confidentiality while receiving care. Patients are instructed about their rights in prosecuting their offenders, with incriminating evidence having been secured during the E.R. examination.
