Information Literacy Skills

December, 1998

"My researching skills were tremendously developed. It is imperative to know how to obtain information, sort through information and utilize information. All three of these areas were well taught in this class. The library exercise provided me with a wealth of knowledge on how to obtain information from the campus library. Now I know how to look up books, journal articles and key words from the Library of Congress."

"Since the development of research skills is very important, it is imperative that experience with all media be explored. Since direct access (to physical therapy services) is a new idea, a vast amount of research was needed to answer the questions proposed by the client. As time progressed, the sources that were normally used in research were becoming too narrow. However, because of the skills that were learned during this semester, the focus of the research was able to be routed in new directions. Several medical journals, electronic newspaper articles, and several Internet sites were used in the research of direct access. Because of the frequency that these new media were used, there was a vast amount of growth as a research."
