What is the Online Writing Center? The Online Writing Center is an experimental service that will allow you to meet with a writing center tutor in cyberspace if you are taking one of the selected online courses. You will be able to discuss your writing at any point in the writing process just as you would in a face to face writing center session. Who can use the Online Writing Center? Students taking online courses at IUPUI during the 2011 term.
What are the advantages of online tutoring? You will have the opportunity to speak with a trained writing center tutor about your work in progress and get some ideas about how to develop and revise your papers just as you would in a face-to-face writing center session. Unlike a face to face session, you need to be able to come to campus during the UWC’s regular operating hours. In addition, the hours will be set to best accommodate students taking Online classes. What are the hours of operation? Evenings and weekends Sessions are for 60 minutes and will begin on the hour. If it is not possible for you to meet during regular online hours, you may suggest a different time by emailing uwctutor@iupui.edu. We cannot guarantee that special requests will be accommodated. Will I need special software to use the service? NO. If your computer has Adobe Flash enabled, all you will need is a scheduled session time, high-speed internet access. and a microphone or webcam (optimal but not necessary). When you schedule a session, you will be sent a link that will take you to the Online meeting with your tutor. All you will have to do is click on that link at the appointed time to begin your tutoring session. How can I schedule a session? Email a request to uwctutor@iupui.edu. How do I prepare for a session? Please email the ONLINE SUBMISSION FORM and your draft as attachments to uwctutor@iupui.edu at least 1 hour prior to your appointment time. The Writing Center will contact you with the link that will take you to the online meeting space. Then you simply click on the link at the time of your appointment.
