This elective is to provide students with an increased understanding of the issues involved in health care in a third world country. The student will spend four to eight weeks in a third world location working with a physician preceptor.
The student will be expected to study the issues dealing with health care and relate these to the socio-economic and cultural factors of the area. A written report of the experience demonstrating accomplishment of specific objectives delineated by the course coordinators will be required.
Some financial support for travel is available from outside sources on a competitive basis; otherwise, the student must be able to support travel and living expenses on his/her own. Further information regarding financial support and a list of possible sites is available through Dr. Charles Kelley (630-7019) or Dr. David Van Reken (541-3451).
