New studies and
amendments to on-going studies are usually scheduled for review during the
next monthly meeting. The IACUC may invite a consultant to assist in the
review of complex issues. The principal investigator receives written
notification of the IACUC’s review. The following outcomes are
possible:
Approve -The application is complete and the proposed animal use is acceptable.
Pending. Approve with
additional information - The application is mostly complete and the proposal
is acceptable; there are a few minor editorial corrections or minor issues
that need to be addressed prior to final approval.
Pending -There are
significant concerns with the study and it cannot be approved in its current
form, but it may be approved later if all concerns are addressed. Revisions
of pending studies are returned to reviewers.
Tabled - The study did not
contain enough information to review it, or the information provided was too
confusing to enable a thoughtful review. It is returned to the principal
investigator for a comprehensive re-write.
Disapproved - A study is returned to the principal investigator because the 60-day deadline for
providing additional information to the IACUC has passed.
Denied - The study application is complete, but the IACUC disapproves of the proposed animal use
