Howard Giles has a long history of publishing on intergroup and intergenerational communication issues and notably, he developed the “Accommodation Theory,” applying the perspective to a number of everyday problems people face when they are from different cultures, have different group affiliations, or try to communication across generations. His presentation turns to particular group, law enforcement.

Professor Giles’ selection as the IUPUI TRIP Inaugural Speaker is based on his keen ability to effectively illustrate how to translate research investigations to make evidenced-based changes in communicative behavior to improve the way law enforcement teams function effectively as a group.
