Stanley Dixon, a new media student in the IU School of Informatics, was also awarded an Outstanding Intern Award at the 2007 Solutions Conference. During his year-long internship at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, he has had experiences as varied as producing videos, researching and managing websites, and creating a variety of graphic elements to showcase the work of the School Services department. According to his mentor, Rick Crosslin, School Liaison for Science Learning at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, “Stanley has a great attitude and an equally exceptional work ethic. He has made himself available to others to help wherever and whenever he can.” Congratulations, Stanley.
Austin Mitchell, Grants Writing Intern for the IUPUI Center for Economic Education, was awarded Outstanding Intern at the 2007 Solutions Conference. Austin is a graduate student who is interested in pursuing a career in nonprofit management. Terri Crews, Program Coordinator for ICEE, remarked that Austin has become a proponent of the Center’s work, even after hours, recruiting board members and working on proposals. In fact, the Center has already benefited from Austin’s expertise—he’s taken the lead on gathering information for three grant proposals since January 2007. It is clear that Austin wants more than personal benefit from his internship; he’s vested in the Center’s work. Congratulations, Austin.
Thanks to the creative of mentoring of Jim Poyser, Managing Editor for Nuvo, we were pleased to honor the Nuvo New Media Intern team: Jenna Baker, Tim Barrett, Lain Ewing, and Kevin Locke. These students worked together as a team to help Nuvo develop a philosophy toward new media. As such, in just a few short months, the team almost quadrupled the amount of multi-media material on the Nuvo website. As Mr. Poyser explains in his nomination, “While it was Jenna’s idea that this approach could work, I have been unable to single out one student. In short, their impact has been revolutionary.” Congratulations, Jenna, Tim, Lain, and Kevin.
