Anchor Institution Initiative and Strategies

As an anchor institution to Indianapolis and Central Indiana, IUPUI is conscious of the impact that decisions made by the organization make on the community and contribute to strategies to improve the quality of life and economic future of the region. IUPUI values strong community partnerships with companies and organizations in Central Indiana and across the state. As part of the OCE goal to “Connect with Communities to Create Community Engagement Opportunities,” OCE serves as the campus lead for Anchor Institution Initiatives in support of university, campus, and community goals. The objectives are: (1) Align IUPUI resources in support of Marion County’s Live – Hire – Buy strategies, and (2) Create new and strengthen existing partnerships with Indiana businesses and community organizations for local, regional, national, and international activities and relationships.

IUPUI is working with community partners to set realistic and sustainable goals that will increase IUPUI’s positive impact on the surrounding community by increasing local hires, buying local, and encouraging employees to live in and support surrounding neighborhoods and businesses. A comprehensive strategy is underway to better leverage the institutional hiring, buying and living strategies to benefit Indiana and the institution.
