Teresa A. Bennett, Director

Teresa A. Bennett is the Executive Director of Professional Development and Corporate Education, an initiative of the IUPUI Office of Community Engagement that provides next-level training and professional development to individuals and specialized corporate training. Prior positions included Founding Director of the IUPUI Solution Center, the campus’s office of Outreach and Community Engagement, from 2004-2014; Director of Strategic Relations for the Purdue University Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS) in West Lafayette; Director of Recruitment and Industry Relations for the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, IUPUI; and Communication Director and Senior Editor for the Center for Urban Policy and the Environment (now Public Policy Institute), School of Public and Environmental Affairs, IUPUI. Ms. Bennett has taught the Graduate Capstone course for SPEA at IUPUI since 2008, in which graduate students have conducted over 100 socially relevant community-based research projects for Indiana nonprofits, businesses, and government agencies to date.  Ms. Bennett earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communication majoring in Public Relations from Purdue University, West Lafayette, and a Master’s degree in Policy Analysis (MPA) from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Indianapolis.
Laura Barahona, Registration and Payroll Specialist Laura Barahona, Registration and Payroll Specialist for Professional Development and Corporate Education, an initiative of the IUPUI Office of Community Engagement. She is in charge of processing payroll for the department’s staff and instructors, processing individual and sponsored registrations and billings and providing administrative and accounting support to the Fiscal Officer. She also enjoys using her bi-lingual skills via outreach events in the community. Previously, Laura was the Finance Manager for a national media relations company.

Shohn Beeson, Program Manager

Shohn Beeson, Program Manager for Professional Development and Corporate Education, an initiative of the IUPUI Office of Community Engagement.  He has been programing classes for six years and his class portfolio includes Computer Software, Education, Veterinary Medicine and Motorsports. Shohn has worked at IUPUI since 2001 in various offices throughout the university, he worked at the IUPUI Community Learning Network as the Contract Training Coordinator, General Studies as a Recruiter, The Enrollment Center as an Enrollment Advisor, and Continuing Studies Department as the  off campus Center Manager of the IUPUI Greenwood Learning Center.

Sherry Blackburn, Program Manager

Sherry Blackburn, Program Manager for Professional Development and Corporate Education, an initiative of the IUPUI Office of Community Engagement.  Sherry manages the Business, Project Management, Human Resources, and Leadership classes; assists in planning professional development events, training seminars and contract planning. In addition, she is the liaison to the American Bus Association for the online CTIS program.  Sherry holds a B.S. in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University, is a Certified Program Planner (CPP), and has worked at IUPUI since 1988.

Janie Faulkner, Fiscal Officer

Janie M. Faulkner, Fiscal Officer for Professional Development and Corporate Education, an initiative of the IUPUI Office of Community Engagement.  Ms. Faulkner was the Fiscal Officer for IUPUI Community Learning Network and has been employed with IUPUI since February of 1998.  She  previously  worked for the State of Indiana as a Grants Manager with the Indiana Commission on Community Service and a Senior Contract Auditor with the Indiana Department of  Transportation.  She  holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Account from Ball State University.   Ms. Faulkner is in charge of human resource, fiscal and budgetary management and operations for the Office of Community Engagement.

Teresa Francis, Communication Assistant

Teresa Francis, Communication Assistant for Professional Development and Corporate Education, an initiative of the IUPUI Office of Community Engagement.  She was formally the Communication Assistant for the IUPUI Solution Center. She assists in coordinating internal and external communication and reporting efforts.  Teresa holds a B.A in Communication with a minor in Music from IUPUI, and a M.A. in Applied Communication from IUPUI.   She has previous experience in media relations at Pacers Sports & Entertainment and film programming at Heartland Film.

Silvia Garcia, Research & Evaluation Specialist

Silvia Garcia, Research & Evaluation Specialist

Silvia Garcia, Ph.D., Research & Evaluation Specialist for Professional Development and Corporate Education, an initiative of the IUPUI Office of Community Engagement.  She was formerly the Research & Evaluation Specialist for the IUPUI Solution Center.  Dr. Garcia conducted two assessments on the overall impact of the Solution Center and the impact of the center’s JPMorgan Chase Near Eastside Legacy Initiative. She is a Master of Nonprofit Management student in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Dr. Garcia was a professor in the School of Education at the Universidad Simon Rodriguez in Venezuela, and has received international grants for development and evaluation of educational programs in Latin America. She was Director of Planning and Institutional Research, and Director of Development at the Universidad Simon Rodriguez. Before coming to IUPUI, Dr. Garcia was a Visiting Scholar at Indiana University-Bloomington in the Educational Leadership & Policy Studies Department.

Sara Griffin, Assistant Director for Outreach and Corporate Education

Sara Griffin, Assistant Director for Outreach and Corporate Education in Professional Development and Corporate Education, an initiative of the IUPUI Office of Community Engagement.  Sara partners with business and community organizations to identify and serve their needs by developing strategic programming, corporate contracts, and related activities. Sara holds a B.A. in Theatre, and a B.A. in English from Franklin College, and is currently enrolled in the M.A. Philanthropic Studies program at the IU Lilly School of Philanthropy.

Kathryn (Kitty) Hughes, Program Manager

Kitty Hughes, Program Manager for Professional Development and Corporate Education, an initiative of the IUPUI Office of Community Engagement.  Her current portfolio includes Medical, Health, Language, Pharmacy Technician, and Goodwill Excel Center classes.  She has been programming Continuing Education classes since 1990, and is a Certified Program Planner (CPP).  Prior to that, she was a Business Manager for a major Real Estate company.  She attended IUPUI and the University of Indianapolis.
