Tau Kappa Epsilon ΤΚΕ (NIC)
On January 10, 1899, five men from Illinois Wesleyan University set out to create a new organization on campus. Even today, the rules and regulations these men created, are still the basis for Tau Kappa Epsilon. Their goal was simple; "To aid men in mental, moral, and social development." Since that cold night nearly ninety-nine years ago, the fraternity has flourished. Tau Kappa Epsilon has over 243,000 members as of December 2007, and 265 chapters and colonies around the United States and Canada. On March 17, 2004, ten men at IUPUI were recognized nationally as colony #788. With help from the nearby chapter at Franklin University the colony received their charter and became known as chapter Upsilon Iota on August 20, 2005. With twenty-three active members and an ever-growing interest in the Greek life from students, this makes Tau Kappa Epsilon one of the largest Greek Organizations on Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis campus.
