The IUPUI Campus Center

Frequently Asked Questions

Are students allowed to hang posters in the Campus Center?

As per our policy, we are utilizing the windows in the Citizens Commons area to hang posters to announce student events. Forms can be picked up at our administration offices in 278, and are also available online.

Are groups allowed to solicit students from an information table?

There was some confusion early on in our opening as to whether or not folks could approach faculty, students and staff in the Campus Center when they had an information table. When a student organization reserves an information desk, they must have someone at it the entire time they are set up. If there are additional members at the information table and they would like to go distribute fliers to others while they are in the Campus Center this is okay. What we are trying to prevent is having people disturbed while they are visiting with friends or eating; so, we do caution folks on how they approach people and how they choose to share their information. No one is prevented from approaching others unless a concern is expressed in how that contact is made.

Why are the escalators not working?

We are all learning quite a bit about escalators and how they work. In our first few weeks, we quickly learned that a piece of rock salt can stop an escalator cold. We have been told that it is preferred that individuals do not walk on an escalator if it is not fully operational. We are not always sure as to the "why" when an escalator stops, but our process will be to post a sign stating the temporary shut down with a promise to get them working ASAP.

What is up with all the building construction?

"Every day we get a little bit more done." This is a statement that Vice Chancellor Whitney shares with her colleagues quite a bit. I appreciate her understanding and knowledge of this project and many like it. I am hoping that one will see fewer and fewer construction crews through out the building. With the size and scope of the facility, the complexities associated with a multi year project and the basic fact that the Campus Center was not completed when first expected.

The good news is that we are getting closer each week. I am confident that we will be closer to completing the project in the near future.
