The IUPUI Campus Center

About the Center

First Impressions

The most incredible building I have ever been in. From the design and structure of the building to the new book store... Everything seems perfect.

Ryan Lawrence Biggs
Freshman

I believe that this new campus center will redefine student life at IUPUI. I believe it will give students a center to congregate and to socialize, other than the library. It also shows how IUPUI wants to invest more in its students and give students the opportunity to hang out after class and not simply run home right after class. Now students will have somewhere where they go and relax. This new addition to IUPUI should be a huge blessing and help personify IUPUI as more of a college campus than simply a store where you can buy an education. I loved the building and look forward to using the new facility, especially since I will be working there.

Andrew Rowley

On behalf of the GSO I wanted to thank you again for the tour, and also for making the extra effort to meet our schedule needs. The tour was great and I think the campus center was beyond all of our expectations; the GSO office is also exceptional. I'm sure the facility will help IUPUI students and staff further develop the sense of "community" and will serve as a "center" for student life on campus.

Dave Stout
GSO President

It is even more wonderful than expected. I don’t know if this makes sense, but I think the building will be like a blank canvas where the students make it come to life. The building itself is creative and wonderful, and I like the spaces and building materials a lot. But, it’s clearly meant to be a place that will come alive with the presence and sounds and sights of the students for whom it is such a terrific addition to our campus.

Scott Evenbeck, Dean
IUPUI University College

WOW! The Campus Center is exactly what IUPUI needs. It is wonderful to see firsthand how it is going to impact our students and the culture of this campus. After touring the Campus Center, I have a better understanding how it will serve as an integral part to building new traditions and unity among this emerging campus. Thank you for the opportunity!

Daniel "Danny" Kibble
Director, Alumni Programs

I look forward to the new Campus Center opening. The Campus Center’s innovative and attractive design enhances the IUPUI campus. Students, faculty, staff, and community members now have a place to gather, study and fellowship on campus.

Thank you for guiding us on the tour yesterday. I am totally awestruck with the beautiful new Campus Center. I believe that the impact will definitely improve how students can have a center that will streamline all of their needs. They can enter college, join a student group, see a play, go the credit union, buy stamps, go the bookstore, and buy some lunch. The multi-purpose room is beautiful too and can serve many campus groups. I can’t wait to see it upon completion when all the dust has disappeared and when all the colorful furniture has been placed in the center. Thank you again.

University College

I really enjoyed the tour of the Campus Center. I received my degree and also worked in career services at Indiana State – which also has a large commuter population. Our student union building was the campus location not only for restaurants, but also for student activities and organizations, meeting space, small group class meetings, workshops, and conferences – a true hub of student activity! It seems that the new Campus Center will offer these same opportunities and more! The facility is coming along nicely and the features are sure to be top-notch. I am confident that the Campus Center will be attractive to current and potential students and to visitors as well. I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished product and the energy this convenient hub for student activity will offer!

I was really impressed with the Campus Center, and I cannot wait until early December.

Dawn Michele Whitehead, Ph.D.
Director for Curriculum Internationalization
IUPUI Office of International Affairs

My first impression of the Campus Center is that it is going to be an extraordinary facility that will do nothing but better the IUPUI campus as a whole. This facility will have a great impact on campus life, not only giving students a new place to "hang out," but a central location to grab some lunch, stop by the bookstore, have a club meeting or attend a campus event. I'm very excited for it's opening in December!

Our students have always been special. When I saw the Campus Center, even in its unfinished form, I thought, "This dramatic and exciting space symbolizes just how special we think our students are. They are a vital center to IUPUI’s intellectual life, just as this Campus Center will become an essential center to campus life."

Sharon J. Hamilton
Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Chancellor's Professor and Professor of English

My first words that come to my mind about the campus center is very open and welcoming. I can't wait for the new environment to welcome new and returning students! Its going to be very warm and an excellent gathering place!

Kelly Burgess
Student – Information Desk staff @ UC

My first impression is the Campus Center has totally transformed the key intersection of IUPUI and will be a vibrant landmark facility that the architectural designers intended.

James Johnson
Member, Chancellor's Circle

I knew before I even walked into the building how excited I would be. It has been the talk of the school for months now, and the anticipation is brewing! But it is everything more than I could have imagined. Some of my fellow staff are ready for a sleepover in the Campus Center! It is going to be a great place for students to hang out and live their life!

I was impressed with the building. After seeing it, I'm even more convinced that the Campus Center will make a significant contribution in taking IUPUI "to the next level" in recruiting and serving our students. I really think this building manifests the spirit of IUPUI's commitment to our students, and it is a great symbol of the maturation of our campus. I can't wait to show it off to prospective students and their parents!

Chris J. Foley
Director of Admissions, IUPUI

The facility was beyond what I ever envisioned it would be. It will be a place of comfort and security.

Don Godleski
Resident District Manager

Certainly my first impression was that this building is so "friendly" with all of the windows to the outside and open space for student activity. Immediately the mind goes to visions of students buzzing throughout or resting in a corner or chatting over coffee or studying cross-legged on a comfy chair with a laptop. One of the best features is the open sight lines. And my "WOW" moment was when I was walking down the third floor corridor toward the south end of the building. Out of the windows you could see a portion of the campus, NIFS, the Indianapolis skyline, Carroll track and field, and an amazing view of the new Lucas Oil Stadium. It was just a magnificent view and gripping reminder of all that is offered here in Indianapolis. This building is going to truly be a fabulous place to work, learn and celebrate all that is IUPUI!

Mary Beth Meyers
IUPUI Registrar

Words cannot express my reaction to the Campus Center. It is truly amazing! Our students have no idea what's in store for them in the very near future. As always, I am proud to be a graduate of IUPUI and I thank you for giving me something else to brag about!

Tralicia Powell-Lewis
Director of Rights, Responsibilities and Conduct, IUPUI

Even walking through cement dust, we could tell it is going to be a beautiful, state-of-the-art building. I just can’t imagine how special the students are going to feel being in it. This building will certainly be a magnet for student life and activities. From an internal point of view, the physical layout of the meeting rooms with the catering access is really exciting to have on campus. What a step up for IUPUI.

Judy Johnson
Enrollment Specialist

Swanky is how I would describe my first impression of the campus center. Even with all the dust, nails, exposed beams, etc… I felt a real classy presence to the place but not to the point of unwelcoming or uninviting, actually, the opposite is how I felt—an attraction—a greater anticipation for its opening.

Michael D. Warwick
Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions, IUPUI

It’s a beautiful, beautiful place. The WOW factor that this will provide to the campus and the city will be tremendous. In recruiting prospective students, it will have an unbelievably positive impact of showing students and their families the IUPUI of today and the future. It’s obvious that a good deal of care and thought went into the planning and execution of the Campus Center. Students are the first consideration for the space and that’s something that many universities forget. Students will find a home away from home in the building and the entire campus will feel welcome.

Terry Brown
IUPUI Associate Director of Admissions

For a long while I have been wondering in what ways the campus center will add to student life at IUPUI. I will not only no longer have to ask that question, but I can answer without reservation that the Campus Center is going to transform life at IUPUI as we know it. The tour really drove home the amount of thought and attention about the needs of our students that has been put into the creation of a place where the entire IUPUI community can come together as a family. I can't wait to see the final product!

Amanda Helman
Director of General Studies
Community Learning Netwok, IUPUI

The new Campus Center presents so much opportunity not only for involvement but growth and development. The Campus Center will definitely become a "hot spot" that everyone must visit.

Jessica Hybarger
Special Programs Coordinator
IUPUI Office of Enrollment Services

I toured the facility yesterday and it is going to be fantastic! Similar to how the opening of the new library fifteen years ago was a major step forward for the campus, this facility is going to have as much if not a greater impact.

Marti Reeser
IU School of Medicine
Health Professions Programs

First I would like to thank you for allowing us the opportunity to view the new campus center. It was amazing! The campus center is a remarkable envision coming to life. It creates an enheartening, entertaining, and yet educational environment all at the same time.

Fallon Fernandes
IUPUI Student

My first impression was that I was pleasantly overwhelmed by the sheer amount of space! The modern design will be vibrant and inviting, while the services housed in the building will do a great job serving students and the rest of the campus population all under one roof. I was pleased to see there will be multiple options for food, beverages, and just hanging out with friends. Also, the fact there are meeting rooms of various sizes, all well-equipped with up-to-date technology, is a major plus. It’s going to be a fantastic addition to campus!

Robert W. Aaron
Director of Assessment and Planning
IUPUI Division of Student Life

The building was absolutely amazing! It was great to see a building entirely focused around students to create a stronger community life!

Caryn Webster

I am so excited about this wonderful facility. The Campus Center will help connect the students from all academic areas with each other and with new opportunities the university has to offer. I can’t wait for the finished product!

Pamela T. Ford, CDA, EFDA, RDH, MSW

The abundance of meeting rooms will be nice for scheduling receptions and student meetings for our department. The cushioned benches, televisions, cafes, and welcome desk will make anyone feel at home on campus.

Shelly R. Wallace
Staff, Electrical and Computer Engineering

My first impression of the Campus Center was "wow, it's huge!" and then my second thoughts were "The new bookstore is a big improvment on what we have now, and I'm glad there's a Starbucks and a Chik-Fil-A!"

Megan Smith
2008 Biology Major

The new campus center has amazing design! The "seen and be-seen" atmosphere makes this a central area for student involvement. Its openness gives the space a community feeling.

Jessie Farris, Student
Senior in the School of Nursing

I was very impressed with the number and quality of features in the building. I have seen presentations about the building before, but seeing it for myself really brought home the enormity of it all. I cannot wait to see the positive impact the building and its services will have on this campus. It's gonna be big!

Danny King
Assistant to the Chair, ECE Department

First impressions, big, fancy, exciting. Should be very nice. We can use nice, larger conference rooms that are affordable for staff and faculty to use. Looking forward to having some good eating/coffee places close by, and the bookstore and post office will also be convenient in this location. The areas for students to relax and study should be very nice also! Looking forward to seeing the Campus Center after completion!

Sheila Walter
Administrative Secretary

I believe that this building is going to become THE place for students at IUPUI. Student organizations are going to have opportunities and resources like they have never had before. I am VERY excited.

Nathan L. Shane Byrer

Massive…and just what this urban campus needs. Upon entering the grand foyer of the building I was immediately flooded with images of how this space is going to improve not only campus life…but student life as we know it. I’m sure we’re not even thinking of ways in which this space can be used, but I’m excited to see it grow as the campus continues to grow!
