From the Desk of Lee Stone, Staff Council President

Dear IUPUI Staff,

Are you a leader? If so, we want you!!!

The Psychologist Dr. Martin Chemers defines leadership as, "a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task." Compare this definition to the purpose of Staff Council, which is to, "act as a voice of the staff in collaborating with the entire campus community." Do these sound familiar? I think they do. I believe Dr. Chemers' definition of leadership mirrors the role of our Staff Council members.

I would also like you to look closely at Dr. Chemers' definition of leadership. Do you see pay grade, job title, or salary anywhere? This also mirrors our Staff Council membership. Although the council is made up of members from many pay grades, job titles, and responsibilities, we are all staff members of IUPUI and that is what matters. If you are an appointed, non-faculty and non-union employee of IUPUI and you have a desire to become engaged with our campus and represent the voice of your fellow employees, then we want you to serve on Staff Council.

Would you like to be a part of the Staff Council? If your academic unit or responsibility center has a vacancy next year, then you will receive an email with a link to a nomination form. If you are interested in serving, please nominate yourself, or if you know of someone in your unit that would make a good representative, then please nominate them.

I am optimistic that we will have a very robust election this year, and if you are interested in serving on Staff Council, I hope to see your name on our membership list next year.

Thank you for all you do for IUPUI!
