IUPUI Multicultural Impact Staff Award

The IUPUI Staff Council, along with the Office of the Chancellor and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are pleased to invite nominations to recognize an outstanding staff member dedicated to promoting diversity. The Multicultural Impact Staff Award is given to a staff member who promotes a campus climate where diversity is valued and accepted, energizes our understanding and appreciation of cultures from across the world, or champions social justice for all who work and learn at IUPUI. The winner of this award should demonstrate merit not based on the essential functions of his or her job, but rather an extraordinary commitment that supersedes what would be considered satisfactory levels of job performance. The winner will be awarded $1,000.

Eligibility

All full-time IUPUI staff are eligible for nomination. Self-nomination is not permitted. Preference will be given to staff members whose activities in diversity are not related to their daily job functions or requirements. Past award winners are not eligible to reapply.

Criteria

Nominees for this award should best exemplify the high standards established in IUPUI's Diversity Mission, "to foster an inviting learning environment for faculty, staff, and students who bring varied human characteristics, backgrounds, interests, and points of views that serve to enrich the IUPUI community." Strong candidates should demonstrate signfiicant contribution to both the IUPUI community and the community at large by supporting and advancing IUPUI's Diversity Goals as defined at: http://diversity.iupui.edu/vision.html.

Process

Any member of the campus community may serve as a nominator. Complete the nomination form and e-mail required documentation to skwalter@iupui.edu. Awardees will be notified once the selection has been made and approved. Successful candidates will be honored at the Chancellor's Employee Recognition Ceremony held on September 9, 2011.

Documentation

All supporting documents for the nomination must be submitted electronically and should include the following:

  • A completed nomination for demonstrating why the candidate being nominated makes a distinctive contribution. (NOTE: For jointly prepared nominations, only one nominator's information can be entered as a contact. All other nominators can be accounted for a the end of the nomination letter.)
  • The nomination form must detail the impact to campus life the nominee has made over the current year, as well as contributions that the staff member has made during his/her IUPUI career.
  • Candidates will be asked to provide documentation and/or support of their activities mentioned in their nomination application. This can include resumes, membership documentation, letters of reference, etc.

Selection of award winners will be determined using the following criteria:

  • Multicultural Campus Involvement
  • Multicultural Leadership
  • Multicultural Service/Community Involvement
  • Multicultural Academic Involvement
