General:

1.         A Staff Affairs knowledgebase has been created in Access that contains all past activities (September 1, 2005 – Present) and current action items for the committee.  Embedded within the database forms are miscellaneous documents and links containing information that can be utilized by any member of the Staff Council.  This information has been forwarded to Mollie Martin and we are working to have this put on the SC website for easy access.

2.         SAC meetings and discussions will continue to happen via email.  All communications are to be copied to the co-chairs (Jason Burnham and Becky Thacker) and Heather Kemp.  All communications will be filed appropriately in the SAC binder and updates made accordingly to the Access database.

Projects:

1.         Campus Life

The Staff Affairs Committee collected specific comments and suggestions for improvement regarding Chartwell’s services on campus.  These were presented to the Chartwell’s directors and they intend to respond in writing addressing each of these concerns.  During their presentation at the SC meeting (November 15, 2006) they expressed their interest in rectifying the problems that staff and students have with the on-campus dining services.

Maggie Miller has extended an invitation for a member of the Staff Affairs Committee to serve on the Food Services Advisory Committee.  This will either be Leslie Kidwell or another SAC member on the Campus Life task force.

2.         Benefits

A representative from Met Life has offered to speak with the SAC regarding short-term disability benefits.  Miki Hamstra will discuss this opportunity with the SC executive committee to see if Dan Rieves or another representative from Human Resources would need to be present for any such discussions.

3.         Fee Courtesy

All past activities and information regarding fee courtesy has been compiled.  The SAC will now continue to research how other Universities (both within and outside Indiana) manage fee courtesy and which benefit trade-offs they advise for maintaining a balanced budget.

4.         Parking

Gary Curto has agreed to be the SAC representative to Dean Sukhatme’s Parking Services Advisory Committee.  He will report back to the SAC regarding discussions and decisions that are made.

Gary Curto has also begun soliciting specific feedback on parking issues and suggestions for improvements in the parking situation.  This information will be compiled and provided to the SAC.

5.         Traffic and Safety

There has been report of another serious incident involving a pedestrian struck while crossing Michigan Street.  The SAC will follow-up with Chancellor Bantz and University Administration regarding their discussions with the city regarding pedestrian safety on campus.  A copy of these communications, when sent, will be available in the SAC binder and Access database.
