•Tralicia Lewis (Housing & Residence Life)
Tralicia is the Associate Director for Housing and Residence Life. She has been employed at IUPUI since 1995. She embodies the word "spirit" in her attitude, loyalty to IUPUI, and her commitment to students and the overall institution. Tralicia is not only employed by IUPUI, but also completed both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at IUPUI. Because of her connection to the campus and her positive experience as a student, she is intensely loyal to IUPUI. She exemplifies what the IUPUI spirit should be. One example of her loyalty to IUPUI, is that she loves to play the school song. She knows all of the words and can recite them whenever necessary. She encourages her staff members to learn the words as well. The song is always played during resident move-in day and during Resident Assistant training, thus increasing new students' connections to the university. Along this same line, she is an avid supporter of the basketball team, in fact, as an undergraduate, she never missed a game. Not only is she spirited about supporting the basketball teams, but also in supporting the overall mission of IUPUI. She speaks passionately about her experience as both an undergraduate and graduate student at IUPUI, and conveys this to anyone she is working with (students, parents, staff, and faculty). Her passion and spirit permeate all that she does on a daily basis.
Tralicia's attitude is also one that is deserving of being recognized. Her positive attitude and loyalty also extend beyond her work in the residence halls. As a member of the Division of Student Life and Diversity, she has volunteered in many roles, but one notable one is the planning of the annual retreat the division holds. Tralicia works to ensure this is a fun, relaxing, informative day. Through her planning and creativity, others are able to enjoy the day, learn something new, and network with others in the division.
Another of Tralicia's strengths is her creativity. A fellow staff member talks about one of the ways Tralicia is creative, stating, "She is the most creative individual I know. At staff retreats she is able to get people to buy- in to the theme with her enthusiasm, silly costumes, hats, and performances.
Tralicia exemplifies the "spirit" of IUPUI, that make her deserving of being awarded the IUPUI Gerald L. Bepko Staff Council Spirit Award. She has a strong devotion and commitment to IUPUI and its mission, and is committed to making it a positive environment for all.
•Janice Watson (Ruth Lilly Law Library)
Janice Watson exemplifies what the Spirit Award is all about. She has been employed by the University for 25 years and is a Senior Cataloging Assistant. Her loyalty and teamwork are demonstrated daily. The library world in general, and the Law Library in particular, has changed dramatically and repeatedly in the more than 25 years of Janice’s employment with the University. That vast experience has made her an invaluable resource within the Law Library.
Janice also uses her organizational skills to enhance the overall team spirit of the Law Library. She has become famous for her "theatrical" productions during the Law School's annual Halloween costume contest, and she makes sure everyone in the Law Library is involved and has fun.
Janice’s stalwart dedication to charitable efforts is evident in both University-wide endeavors like Backpack Attack and canned food drives, as well as those that specifically involve Law School personnel; the Law Library is always one of the biggest contributors. She not only encourages the rest of us to contribute, but she herself goes above and beyond in giving of her time and money. Janice does all this without thinking of recognition and is truly the spirit of the Law Library.
