Returning and Non-traditional Student Scholarships

*Adult Outstanding Scholarship

Up to $1,000
Deadline: March 15

Motivated adult (30+) returning students with at least 12 credit hours and a minimum GPA of 3.3 in all courses since returning, who are working towards their first baccalaureate degree.

IUPUI Outstanding GED Scholarship

$2,000 annually renewable for 4 years
Deadline: April 1 admission

Students who achieve an average standard score of 650 or higher on the GED Test and are unconditionally admitted to IUPUI are eligible to receive this scholarship (no separate application required). Renewable with maintenance of a minimum 3.0 GPA and full-time enrollment.

*Jonathan A. Carter Memorial Scholarship

Up to $500
Deadline: March 15

This scholarship is designated for part-time returning and/or non-traditional male students who may not otherwise qualify for financial assistance. Students must exhibit qualities of caring for others, desire to succeed and a strong work ethic. Preference will be given to a student majoring in business. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

*Dr. Arthur Mirsky Senior Academy Returning-Student Scholarship

Deadline: March 1, admission and application

The Senior Academy at IUPUI has established a scholarship program designed to partially support tuition and books for students who, for some reason, dropped out of college-level status for at least 5 years, and are now planning to enroll in IUPUI in order to complete their first undergraduate degree. The applicant must not have enrolled in any college-level courses during the five years prior to enrolling at IUPUI. Applications will be reviewed and the awardee selected by the Senior Academy Scholarship Awards Committee. Applicants must (1) meet regular re-admission requirements to IUPUI, (2) have had a grade point average of at least 2.00 on a 4.00 scale for previous college credits, and (3) agree to enroll for at least 6 credit hours per semester. The applicant must also submit (a) an academic transcript of any previous undergraduate courses taken, (b) one letter of recommendation, and (c) complete an essay on your academic goals and why your experience during your absence from school will enhance your successful completion of your academic goals.


Women’s Rotary Club of Indianapolis Scholarship

$1,500
Deadline: January 25

Non-traditional females returning after 3 years or more, enrolled at IUPUI for the academic year for education and preparation for re-entry into the job market and/or starting a new career are eligible to apply. *Altrusa Scholarship

Deadline: May 15, 2012

The Altrusa Foundation of Indianapolis, Inc. Scholarship is open to full or part-time non-traditional adult students, five or more years since high school, who have completed at least 42 credit hours with a minimum 2.7 GPA and who are in good academic standing. Applicants must be seeking a certificate or under-graduate degree and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of Central Indiana (Marion and its 8 surrounding counties). The selection is based on financial need and academic potential. The scholarship will be awarded for educational expenses as appropriate according to student need. Applicants must show proof of financial need as defined by the FAFSA.
Students must submit the Continuing Student Scholarship Application, essays (email seperately from the application to Escholar@iupui.edu or drop off to CA 103), transcript, and two letters of recommendation.
Essay Questions:
1. Tell us about yourself and your family. (maximum – 250 words)
2. What are your leadership and service accomplishments to the community and which is the most important to you and why? (maximum-150 words)
3. Tell us how this scholarship will improve your life and will increase your chances of financial independence. Please include information about the program or school to which you have been accepted or enrolled and why you chose this program and profession. Share how your career choice can impact the common good. (maximum-500 words)
4. Do you have any other sources of support for this program? If so, please list. Will you be able to attend this program if you do not receive financial support? (maximum – 100 words)
