Admission-Based Scholarships for Non-Resident Students*

Valedictorian and Salutatorian Scholarships

$10,000 annually for 4 years

Students who have applied for admission by February 1, who are ranked first or second in their high school class may qualify for this scholarship. To be considered for renewal, students must attend full time and maintain a 3.0 GPA (no separate application is required). Students considered for this scholarship must graduate from a class of 25 students or higher.

Outstanding Freshman Scholarship (OFS)

$8,000 annually for 4 years

Students who have applied for admission by February 1 who have a minimum high school GPA of 3.75 (on a 4.0 scale) with a minimum 1300 SAT (650 Math only score for international students from non- English speaking countries) or 29 ACT score may be eligible for this scholarship. To be considered for renewal, students must attend full time and maintain a 3.0 GPA (no separate application required).

Dean’s Recognition Scholarship (DRS)

$6,000 annually for 4 years

Students who have applied for admission by February 1 who have a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) and who score 1200 or higher on the SAT ( 600 Math only score for international students from non- English speaking countries) or 26 on the ACT may be eligible for this scholarship. To be considered for renewal, students must attend full time and maintain a 3.0 GPA (no separate application required).

IUPUI Service Award

$2,000 - 5,000 annually for 4 years

Students who have applied for admission by February 1 who have a minimum high school GPA of 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale) (or 525 Math score only for international students from non- English speaking countries) may be eligible for this scholarship. Recipients must volunteer for 20 hours of service at IUPUI events annually. To be considered for renewal, students must attend full time and maintain a 3.0 GPA (no separate application required).

International Ambassador Award

$3,500 renewable up to 4 years

To be eligible for consideration, international students must be admitted as beginning freshmen by May 1st for the fall semester and submit one of the following: a minimum iBT TOEFL score of 80, a minimum SAT Critical Reading Score of 450, or an IELTS score of 6.0 to be eligible for this award.

Recipients must volunteer annually for 15 hours of service at IUPUI events that have an international theme. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

ELS Ambassador Award

$3,500 renewable up to 4 years for beginning freshman, or 2 years for transfer students. The ELS Ambassador Award is based on successful completion of ELS Language Centers Level 112.

Recipients must volunteer annually for 15 hours of service at IUPUI events that have an international theme. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

IUPUI Honors College

The IUPUI Honors College provides a challenging academic curriculum for enthusiastic and dedicated students seeking to grow both intellectually and personally. Our program is a coherent, campus-wide program for high achieving students from all academic disciplines. Honors Program students have the opportunity to enroll in smaller dynamic classes and to collaborate with faculty in independent study and research projects. Participants in the IUPUI Honors Program will be required to complete at least three credit hours of honors course work each semester. Honors faculty and staff are committed to providing the best educational experience for IUPUI’s top students. Entering freshmen who have a combined SAT score of 1250 or an ACT composite score of 27 with a minimum 3.75 GPA are automatically admitted to the IUPUI Honors Program. Bepko Scholars and Fellows Program

Scholarship & Admission Application Deadline: December 1 – In-state (rate) undergraduate tuition, fees, and books for four years of study, two years of on-campus housing, and up to $5,000 per year for four years of graduate or professional study at IUPUI.

This highly competitive program provides financial, academic, and programming support to academically motivated and civically engaged students throughout their undergraduate and post-graduate years. Criteria: excellent SAT or ACT scores, outstanding performance in a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum, and extensive civic engagement endeavors are required. Finalists for the award must also complete an interview as the final step of the application process. (Note: students residing outside Indiana will be interviewed by phone.) *Plater Distinguished Scholars Program

Scholarship & Admission Application Deadline: December 1st -- $8,000 per year for four years of study, also funding for a study abroad experience, and a partial housing stipend for living in International House for one year.

As a key component of the Plater International Scholars Program this highly competitive scholarship is available to exceptional incoming freshmen who are committed to combining academic excellence with global citizenship. Plater Scholars will be actively involved in international programming both on and off-campus. Criteria: minimum GPA of 3.75 or higher (or its recognized equivalent) on a 4.0 scale, excellent SAT or ACT examination results (applicants for whom English is not their native language should also submit TOEFL results), and an application essay (addressing why you believe being a globally informed citizen is important in the 21st century as well as describing the qualities and/or experiences you have that will support you in your efforts to become such a citizen). Finalists for the award must also complete an interview as the last step of the application process. (Note: students residing outside Indiana will be interviewed by phone.)

Research Scholarship Programs

IUPUI Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program offers undergraduate research project and travel grants and conference travel funds to support and encourage undergraduates who participate in research and other creative projects with faculty in all disciplines, including music and art. Beginning Freshman & Transfer Student Scholarship Requirements

The Diversity Scholars Research Program is aimed at attracting academically talented students pursuing an education in the research setting who will contribute to the diversity of IUPUI. Students in the program are part of a group of undergraduate scholars who benefit from the research activities, individual support and scholarship funding leading to graduation with a four year degree. The research component is designed no only to acclimate students to a research setting, but also to actively involve them in undergraduate research in preparation for graduate studies. Research mentors from IUPUI faculty and the corporate sector help these scholars to structure their research programs. This award is made to students in a variety of majors at IUPUI and is highly competitive.

Eligibility requirements:

Student must be in the top 25% of their graduating class and have at least a 1070 SAT (math and critical Reading sections only) or 23 ACT score.
Student must have at least a B grade in all math and science courses.
Student must supply at least two (2) letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a math or science teacher.
Student must be a US citizen or permanent resident. A scholar may continue in the program for up to 4 years by maintaining a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
Students from racial and ethnic populations who have been historically underrepresented in institutions of higher education in Indiana and whose presence will enhance the learning environment through increased diversity at IUPUI are encouraged to apply.

Diversity Scholarships

Norman Brown Diversity & Leadership Program

Up to $3000 per academic year for merit or financial need
Up to $6,000 per academic year for both merit and financial need

The Norman Brown Diversity & Leadership Program is designed to recruit, retain and prepare serious, academically gifted students who have demonstrated a commitment and/or desire to develop leadership skills for today’s multicultural world. Program participants are encouraged to attain academic success, engage in leadership and civic activities, and prepare for work force entry. All scholars are required to enroll full time; maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA; participate in specific program functions; and meet on a regular basis with an assigned IUPUI faculty/staff mentor.

Eligibility Requirements: Beginning freshman applicants must meet IUPUI’s regular admission criteria (Indiana Core 40/Academic Honors diploma or equivalent), have a SAT 950 or ACT 20 and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

All applicants are required to submit the following items:

High school transcript
Two letters of recommendation
Personal essay which must be double spaced, typed, and no longer than THREE typewritten pages; The essay must address ALL of the following questions:
1. Why are you interested in being a Norman Brown Scholar?
2. What qualities do you feel are necessary to be a leader in a multicultural environment and how have you demonstrated these qualities in the past?
3. What challenges or obstacles have you overcome in order to pursue your dreams of going to college?
4. How will you utilize you education and leadership skills to support individuals from underserved communities?

This program is an integral part of IUPUI’s efforts to foster the benefits of educational diversity, in part by assuring the obtainment of a critical mass of students from underrepresented minority backgrounds with a history of discrimination. As such, during the application process positive considerations are given to students from underrepresented minority backgrounds and whose presence will enhance the learning environment through increased diversity at IUPUI. *The Olaniyan Scholars Program

Scholarship open to freshmen and sophomore students

The Olaniyan (Oh-LAWN-eee-yawn) Scholars Program offers academically gifted students interested in black studies and black populations the opportunity to work with a full-time faculty mentor to design a research project that will explore some issue or aspect of the lives, history, traditions, or interests of people of African descent. Students will also participate in community internships that encourage civic engagement and partnerships with organizations working to enrich, support, uplift, and encourage African and African American populations within the Indianapolis community. The program is open to students of all races, nationalities, and backgrounds with preference given to students from underrepresented populations in higher education. All scholars must enroll full time (12-15 credit hours), maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, participate in specific program functions and internship experiences, and meet regularly with their faculty mentor. Applicants can be Indiana or out-of-state residents (out-of-state applicants must contact the Scholarship Office/Financial Aid Office to apply for aid to cover the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition), meet IUPUI’s regular admissions criteria, and have a cumulative 2.7 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) on their high school transcripts. *Sindoqua Scholarship for Native American Women

Up to $1,000
Deadline: March 1

Preference for this award will be given to Native American Women. The successful applicants will be enrolled with a tribe native, or once native, to the state of Indiana. Priority will be given to members of the Miami, Potawatomi, Shawnee, Wea, Kickapoo, Ottawa, Chippewa, Delaware or Mohican tribes (tribes do not need to be federally recognized), who can verify the enrollment of the applicant. Other members enrolled with any recognized tribes in the United States or Canada are also welcome to apply.

Sam H. Jones Community Service Scholarship Program

The Sam H. Jones Community Service Scholarship Program recognizes IUPUI students for previous service to their high school, campus, or community, and supports their continued involvement in educationally meaningful service, leadership, and social advocacy. Sam H. Jones was a dedicated public servant who provided dynamic leadership as the Chief Executive Officer of the Indianapolis Urban League. The program honors Sam Jones’ legacy as a community leader whose vision and dedication improved the quality of life for many in Central Indiana. The Freshman Service Scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated a commitment to voluntary service through high school and/or community-based organizations. Applicants must meet regular admissions standards. Freshman Service Scholars agree to enroll in at least 9 credit hours per semester, including a required service learning class, and participate in planned community service activities during the year.

Two letters of recommendation, with at least one from a teacher who is familiar with your service involvement.

The personal essay should describe your service activities, how the service contributed to your school and/or community, and the lessons you learned through your involvement with others. *“Make a Difference” Scholarship

The Center on Philanthropy is pleased to offer a $500 scholarship for students who have participated in school or community service and are interested in careers that “make a difference” and want to continue to be involved with helping others. Its purpose is to further develop leadership skills and connect the recipient with a network of other students with similar “service interests.” Applicants must meet regular IUPUI admission requirements, score at least 950 on the SAT or 20 on the ACT, and graduate in the top 50 percent of their high school class. The recipient must agree to enroll as a fulltime student during their freshman year and maintain a 2.5 GPA.
