Major-Specific Scholarships for Indiana Resident Freshmen

*Health & Life Science Scholarship

Up to $2,000 in-state/$4,000 out-of-state per year, renewable for 4 years
Deadline: February 15, admission and application

The Health & Life Science Scholars Program is designed for beginning freshmen in the health and life science majors. Contingent upon availability of funds, a Health and Life Science Scholar who is a beginning major may supported up to eight regular (fall/spring) semesters provided that the student continues in a degree program in a health or life science and maintains an overall minimum GPA of 3.5. An applicant must be in the top 25% of their high school graduating class and have a minimum SAT score of 1200 or ACT score of 26. An award recipient may hold only one scholarship funded by the School of Science. Application, essay, transcript, and two letters of recommendation must be received by the Office of Student Scholarships by the deadlines listed above.

*Math & Science Education Scholarship

$2,500 per year, renewable up to 4 years

The Math and Science Teaching Scholarship Program offered by the Urban Center for the Advancement of Math/Science Education, is designed to encourage and to support outstanding high school graduates who desire to pursue a career in math or science teaching at the middle and/or high school level. Eligible students must be in the top 25% of their graduating class and have a minimum 1050 SAT (Math & Critical Reading Sections only) or 22 ACT score; have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale); and must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. Eligible students from the under-represented minority groups are encouraged to apply.

Sam Masarachia Scholarships

Full tuition and fees, renewable up to 4 years (in-state rate, 12-15 credit hours per semester)
Deadline: February 1, admission and application

New beginning full-time students interested in studies related to labor, senior citizens, and/or community activism are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. Recipients will participate in Masarachia seminars, internships, and related activities. All finalists will be interviewed and scholars will be selected based on academic merit, financial need, and evidence of commitment to and familiarity with one or more of the specified program areas. Qualified applicants must have graduated in the top 40 percent of their high school class with a 1000 SAT or 21 ACT score. Application, essay, transcript, and two recommendation forms must be received by the Office of Student Scholarships by February 1. Melba Schumacher Scholarship for Mechanical Engineering

$500 - $4,000, Renewable (3.0 GPA)
Priority Date: February 1, admission and application

The Melba Schumacher Scholarship is available for all traditional, full-time students that are admitted directly into the Mechanical Engineering program.

Commitment to Engineering Excellence

$2,200 per academic year
Application deadline: February 1.

This is a scholarship gives preference to women and minority students whose presence will enhance the learning environment through increased diversity in the School of Engineering and Technology. Students must be directly admitted to the School of Engineering and Technology in an engineering or engineering technology program. Students may re-apply for this scholarship each year. Students will also have opportunities for paid undergraduate research. Students are required to work in a research lab for five hours per week and attend research and leadership related workshops throughout the semester. Herron School of Art and Design

Freshmen Portfolio Scholarships

Up to half tuition for one year
Deadline: April 1

Herron School of Art and Design awards 5-10 incoming freshmen from the state of Indiana annually with these scholarships, based on the student’s portfolio of art work. To be considered for this scholarship, students must submit their portfolio, application form and an essay to Herron School of Art and Design by April 1. Shared Heritage Scholarship

Up to $3000, renewable

The Shared Heritage Scholarship was established in 1996 in conjunction with the Shared Heritage exhibition at the Indianapolis Museum of Art in recognition of four African-American artists: John W. Hardwick, William Majors, William E. Scott, and Hale Woodruff. Incoming freshmen or transfer students applying to be full-time students to Herron School of Art are eligible for this scholarship. This scholarship is renewable for students who maintain good academic standing in Herron courses (2.50 GPA). A portfolio application is required. The James R. East Scholarship was established to promote and encourage former members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis (BGCI) to study in a degreed curriculum in the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI. Applicants must be previous members of BGCI, be an incoming freshman with a C or higher high school GPA, be directly admitted to the School of Liberal Arts, have demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA and have academic potential. The scholarship is renewable if a semester grade average of B or higher is maintained. The School of Physical Education & Tourism Management is pleased to offer this scholarship to an incoming freshman female student who is majoring in any major in the Physical Education degree program (Exercise Science, Exercise Science Pre-PT, Pre-OT, Pre-Med, Sports Management, Fitness Studies and Teacher Education) . This scholarship will be applied to the tuition and books of the recipient (any remaining balance will be carried forward into the next academic year). Eligible students must qualify for financial aid (as defined by the FAFSA), have minimum H.S. GPA of 2.5, and satisfactory SAT/ACT scores. Applicants must also have participated in sports (female athletes from organized and recreational sports will be considered). Finalists will be selected and interviewed by the school's scholarship committee.

This scholarship is for an incoming freshman majoring in tourism, conventions, and event management with at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The recipient must be working in the industry, whether in hotels, tourism, restaurants, or other hospitality and tourism fields. Diverse students are encouraged to apply. Frank and Loretta Feigl Scholarship

This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman who intends to study Physical Education Teacher Education. Qualified applicants must gave a minimum 2.5 GPA in high school, satisfactory SAT/ACT scores, be involved in school/community organizations, and accepted for admission to IUPUI and the School of Physical Education & Tourism Management. Students may have a 2.0 GPA in high school and modest SAT/ACT scores but must demonstrate employment during high school and be accepted for admission by IUPUI. These students will receive equal consideration as those with a 2.5 GPA. Submit application, transcript and a one-page succinct letter outlining your career goals and objectives, along with one additional sheet listing in outline or bullet-point form your high school and community-service activities. If your GPA is between 2.0 and 2.4, please include a letter of recommendation from your employer verifying your work schedule maintained during high school and reflecting upon your work ethic.

Anna A. Schmook Scholarship

This $3,000 scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman student at IUPUI who intends to study Kinesiology as a major. Eligible students should have a minimum 3.0 GPA in high school, 1000 SAT or 21 ACT scores, or Academic Honors Diploma, and be accepted for admission directly into the Kinesiology Department at the IUPUI School of Physical Education & Tourism Management. Recipients will be required to attend the Summer Bridge Program. Eligible students will reside in PETM Housing in The Tower at IUPUI. Submit application, and verification of your admission enrollment fee, verification of your signed housing contract for PETM Housing floor in The Tower, and verification of your paid housing contract fee. Also submit a two-four page essay (double-spaced, one-inch margins, 12-point font) that addresses the following two questions: 1) What motivated you to pursue a career in your field of study? How has your previous work experience contributed to this decision? What are your career objectives and goals? 2) Describe the nature of your community service and in particular, how volunteering made a difference in the community as well as to your personal development. How will your IUPUI degree enable you to serve your community?

Peter George Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming Tourism, Conventions, and Event Management student. Eligible students must be an Indiana resident and have a minimum of 3.25 out of a 4.0 high school GPA. Submit application, transcript and a 500-word essay (12 point font, double-spaced, one inch margins) on your personal interest in food service as a career and how obtaining a degree will help your future success.

Bill and Joan McGowan Super Service Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to either an incoming freshman or continuing student in the Tourism, Conventions, and Event Management Department who contributes to the greater Indianapolis hospitality, tourism and events industry while simultaneously going to school. Eligible students should have worked for their hospitality, tourism or events employer in the greater Indianapolis metropolitan area for a minimum of six months and be in good standing. Eligible students also must be nominated by their employer and have a cumulative 2.5 or higher GPA. Submit application, complete FAFSA form, and a brief essay on the topic “Making a Difference: How I Demonstrate Super Service and Contribute to Guest Satisfaction through My Work.” Finalists will be invited to participate in a brief on-campus interview as part of the selection process.

This scholarship is for beginning students who have been directly admitted to the School of Science, majoring in mathematics, who plan to enroll full time. Recipients are chosen based on academic achievement and professional objective. Completed application, transcript, test scores, two letters of recommendation, and essay outlining personal and career goals and objectives must be submitted directly to the Math Department by March 1.
