If you need to access any of the databases within PeopleSoft such as; SIS (ie Student Records, EPIC for approvers, etc.) or the Financial Information System (FIS), you need a Safeword Card. If you need access to FDRS or IUIE, you don't need a Safeword Card, but you do need to fill out a User Agreement and get a userid.
No. Electronic Mail or E-mail is provided as a service from your local campus or network administrator and is available to anyone with a local userid. Call the Support Center at 4-HELP (274-4357) to request a local userid (Jewel, Exchange for Outlook...etc.) if you do not already have one.
Contact your Departmental Safeword Card Coordinator and ask for a User Agreement. Your Departmental Safeword Card Coordinator can help you with the rest of the process.
If you do not have a Departmental Safeword Card Coordinator call the Safeword Card Administrator @ 278-3305 or send e-mail to SafeWord Administration.
If you are the Departmental Safeword Card Coordinator, please read Safeword Card Coordinators Instructions. If you have further questions, call the Safeword Card Administrator @ 278-3305 or send e-mail to SafeWord Administration .
Whenever you can't tell if the Safeword display is alpha or numeric, e.g., number 8 or letter B, or number 1 or letter I, or number 0 for O, use the numeric.
Consider doing the initial logon to the system before activating the Safeword card because there is a 45-second time-out on the Safeword card.
If there are any typos during the process, the authentication continues without notice but returns a fresh authentication screen with a new challenge for you to begin again. If you have two bad logon attempts in a row, the system takes you back to the user signon screen. If you have 6 failed login attempts, your account will be put on Intruder Lockout which must be removed by Security Accounts at IUPUI. You can call them directly at 278-3305 or send email to SafeWord Administration.
If you lose your Safeword Card contact your Departmental Safeword Card Coordinator to get a replacement card and have the lost card disabled. If you've forgotten your card at home, contact your Departmental Safeword Card Coordinator. S/He may have a card available to transfer to you. The two of you will need to fill out a Safeword Card Transfer Form to have the Safeword databases updated. You may keep using the transferred card if approved by your Coordinator. When you bring your card in, give it to your Coordinator to use the next time someone forgets a card. If your Coordinator does not have a spare card and you must be able to access the administrative systems for the day, get a Safeword Card Loaner form from your Coordinator. This form must be signed by both your Coordinator and the Account Manager. You or your Coordinator may bring the form to the Safeword Card Administration to IT300 or fax the form to 274-0776. They will give you a card that you may use for up to a week. After one week , if the card is not returned to the Safeword Card Administration, it will be charged to your departmental account.
Contact your Departmental Coordinator first. If s/he isn't available, call the Support Center at 812-855-6789. The message there may direct you to another number in Operations. Someone from Security Administration is always on call, and the operator on duty will contact that person for you. The Security Administration staff member on call will contact you to help get you working again temporarily.
A pencil eraser seems to work best to press the Safeword card bubbles. Do not use the tip of a pencil or ball point pen.
If you need access only to 'GUEST' services, the Safeword card is not required.
Call the UITS Support Center @ 855-6789 or SafeWord Administration. They can help determine why you're failing the challenge process and remove the lockout.
Call the Support Center @ 812-855-6789 followed by 2 and then 2 and tell them you need to have your password reset. (You must own the account for which you are calling) or send email to SafeWord Administration They will contact you and reset your password.
- When do I need to come over to the Safeword Administration Office in person?
The only times you might need to come over to the Safeword Card Administration office in person are:
New Safeword Card users will get their cards from their Departmental Safeword Coordinators at which time they should also receive a copy of this document and training in how to use the card.
- If your card has gone bad and you can't wait for a replacement card via campus mail. Bring a signed Safeword Card Replacement Request and a picture ID.
- If you left your card at home, you can't go back home to get it and your Coordinator doesn't have a spare card to transfer to your account. Bring a signed Safeword Card Loaner Request signed by both your Coordinator and your department's account manager along with a picture ID.
- What you should NEVER do to your Safeword Card.
And, finally...
- Never use a sharp object such as a pencil point or pen to press the keys.
- Never use your finger nails to press the keys.
- Never put your Safeword Card in your back pocket and sit on it.
- Never leave your Safeword Card on your chair seat.
- Never carry your Safeword Card loose in your purse.
- Never twist or bend your Safeword Card. This can disconnect the wiring.
- Never expose your Safeword Card for a long time to freezing temperatures. The liquid crystal can freeze and shatter.
- Never damage or abuse your Safeword Card.
- Never throw your Safeword Card against the wall; and, try to avoid slipping it off your desk on to the floor (no matter how much you may want to).
- If you are the type of person who cannot wear a watch, or electrical devices do not work for you, never touch your Safeword Card. Have someone set it near your workstation. You can activate it with a pencil eraser holding the pencil by its wood surface.
