THE WORLD OF TOURNAMENT BRIDGE

Jordan will discuss the attributes of "Great
Games," the role of the tournament bridge governing organizations
and the "masterpoint system," the difference between social
bridge and tournament bridge, how tournament bridge is played and
scored, "bidding systems" and "conventions,"
types of tournament events and tournament levels, evolution of the
tournament game, the role of luck, and bridge and senior mental
health. For show and tell, Jordan will bring along some of the equipment
used in tournament play, and will tell us how to get started in
Indianapolis.
Bridge is one of the "Great Games." In the United States
160,000 people pay dues to the American Contract Bridge League and
at least twice that amount are members of foreign associations.
