IUPUI Senior Academy Fall Social
T. C. Steele State Historic
Site
In 1907 T.C. Steele , noted Indiana artist, and
his second wife Selma purchased property in Brown County and began
construction of their home. Inspired by the picturesque scenes encountered
in Brown County, they named it the “House of the Singing Winds.”
In 1945, the artist’s widow donated the estate to the people
of Indiana on the condition that it be preserved to inspire future
art and nature lovers. We invite you to join the Senior Academy
on a visit to this 211 acre site which includes the home, the studio
, 5 hiking trails and the 92 acre Selma N. Steele State Nature Preserve.
