Power and Glory: Court Arts of China’s Ming
Dynasty

The Senior Academy Social Committee will present a
docent-guided tour of the special exhibit Power and Glory: Court
Arts of China’s Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) at the Indianapolis
Museum of Art Indianapolis Museum
of Art on Wednesday, November 12, 2008. Attendees should meet
at 10:00 A.M. in the IMA main lobby. The tour will begin promptly
at 10:15 A.M. and last approximately one hour, but attendees should
feel free to continue viewing the exhibit afterwards. The IMA has
wheel chairs available.
This exhibition is arranged by the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco
in association with the Palace Museum-Beijing, Nanjing Municipal
Museum, and Shanghai Museum. It features more than 200 objects,
including paintings, gold, jade, textiles, jewelry, carvings, lacquer
pieces, enamel, and porcelains. Some objects are from newly excavated
tombs of people related to the Ming court and have never been shown
outside of China.
Cost: Senior admission to this special exhibit is $10. However,
special exhibits are free for IMA members and a number of guests,
depending on the type of membership. IMA members, please bring your
membership card so that we can determine if we have enough member-and-guest
privileges to cover non-IMA-members. Non-IMA-members will be asked
to contribute $5 to cover costs.
Lunch: Lunch is available at the IMA café, which features
soups, sandwiches, salad bar, and beverages. Ample seating is available.
Puck’s is also open for lunch. After lunch, feel free to explore
the permanent collection, grounds, gardens, greenhouse and Lilly
House.
