Organizational Meeting Minutes
08/14/2007
Mike Schacht, Minhaj Khaja, Dan Musick, & Nick Koontz in attendance
1.The meeting was opened with a discussion about the new website. The site can be accessed from: http://web.mac.com/mkaja/Radiology_Student_Interest_Group/Home.html and will soon be linked to the IU Radiology website.
2.Discussion was directed to planning of the monthly meetings. After consideration, it was determined that meetings will be held to 1 hour this year, and a new format will be adopted. Under the new format, each meeting will consist of a talk by a Radiology staff member (~40 minutes), as well as a shorter discussion lead by a Radiology Resident. This will allow for adequate time for questions and “networking” following the presentation. It was determined that the September meeting will be organized by Wes Potts, and will consist of an introduction by Dr. Richard Gunderman. MSI and MSII calendars were referenced, and the meeting will be held at 12:00 pm on September 10, 11, 12, 13, or 14, depending on Dr. Gunderman’s availability.
The October meeting will be held at 12:00 pm sometime on October 11-12, 16-19, and will be organized by Nick Koontz with speakers to be determined.
The November meeting will be held at 12:00 pm sometime on November 5-8.
3.The largest focus of the meeting was a discussion regarding Constitutional changes. Per recommendation of Mike Veronesi, changes should be made which improve the fairness of elections. In order to do this, it was determined that all members of the Radiology Student Interest Group can vote, but strict criteria for membership must be met. After much consideration, it was determined that membership criteria will include:
Nominal annual membership fee + Providing contact information + 4 pts.

♣Attending a Radiology Student Interest Group Organizational Meeting
♣Attending a Radiology Student Interest Group Service Project

4.The creation of a Journal Club was discussed, and Nick Koontz will contact Dr. Gunderman regarding his assistance in launching this endeavor.
5.The 2007-2008 budget was briefly discussed, and it was determined that we will submit a letter highlighting the Radiology Student Interest Group budgetary needs to MSC for their financial support. As well, a representative of the interest group must attend the MSC budget meeting this year in order to collect the full amount. Dan Musick will explore the options of opening a Radiology Student Interest Group bank account.
6.Lastly, annual transfer of power was discussed. It was determined that the Constitution should be amended to require officer elections and transfer of power by April 30th each year.

Topics discussed:
1.Jump drive to track all files – easier than CD. Wes thought he could come up with one. This would be passed down from year to year to keep track of files.
2.Tallying points for membership – Wes thought he could do this. He requested the attendance files from Mike.
3.Planning upcoming meetings for January, February, March, April, and May (planning meeting)

•The following are topics and speakers we discussed. At each meeting we were hoping for a staff and resident to attend.

oNeuroradiology – Suggestions?
oMSK – Kent Hansen who is a resident, Ken Buckwalter (only 1 or 2 staff in this field)
oNuclear Medicine – Dr. Mark Tann
