Indiana University School of Medicine Radiology Student Interest Group Constitution
Article I: Name
The name of this organization formed under these rules, shall be the Radiology Student Interest Group of the Indiana University School of Medicine and herein after will be referred to as the Radiology Student Interest Group (RSIG).
Article II: Purpose
A.The purpose of this organization is to cultivate interest in the field of radiology amongst the medical student population and serve as a resource for individuals expressing such interest.
B. Specifically, the RSIG shall:
1.Host events to introduce students to the field of radiology and its various subspecialties.
2.Provide avenues to attain useful information for students who are in the process of applying to residency programs in radiology.
3.Assist students in the location and selection of mentors (current residents, staff, etc.) and research opportunities.
Article III: Members
A.The RSIG voting membership shall be open to all IUSM medical students based on a point system:
1.A student must acquire five points during each academic year. One point is earned for each:
i.Lunch Lecture attended
ii.Lunch Lecture organized
iii.Executive Council meeting attended
iv.Journal club attended
2.Points will be tallied by one of the Co-Chairs.
3.Voting members must also submit their contact information including name and email to the officers.
4.Voting members have the right to run and vote for an officer position for the following year.
B.The officers shall be:
1.Two Co-Chairs (co-presidents) *must be 3rd or 4th year students
2.One Vice President/Secretary
3.One Treasurer
4.One Webmaster
5. Officers can be added as necessary, if deemed appropriate by the current officers.
Article IV: Meetings
A.The officers will have three organizational meetings throughout the academic year (to be scheduled by the Co-Chairs). The first two will occur at the start of each semester (one in August/September and one in January) in order to plan any events and activities. The third will occur at the end of April and its purpose will be to elect the officers for the next year. Detailed voting guidelines can be found within the RSIG by-laws.
B.Monthly meetings for all members of the RSIG will be held each month from September through May, except in December. The meetings will consist of guest speakers, meet and greet sessions, or any other activity deemed appropriate by the officers and voting membership.
Article V: Ratification and Amendment of the Constitution
A.Ratification of this constitution will occur by approval of four of five officers.
B.Amendments to this constitution can be made by approval of three of the five officers.
C.Current Executive Council members will retain their positions until the conclusion of this year, when the new officer elections will take place, instituting the new election process.
Radiology Student Interest Group By-Law #1: Voting Procedures
Selecting officers from the voting membership
At the last meeting of the current academic year, the officers will be selected by the voting members of the RSIG. This process will be complete by anonymous majority voting for each position. An RSIG member may run for more than one officer position in the event they are not selected for a position already established. Votes shall be submitted on paper to the officer designated to tally votes. Positions will be filled in the following order: two co-chairs, VP/secretary, treasurer, Webmaster.
•Co-chairs must be MSIII or MSIV.
•Other officer positions may be filled by MSII, III, or IV.
Radiology Student Interest Group By-Law #2: Transfer of Power
Outgoing officers will transfer all paperwork including RSIG Log, attendance records, budget statements, etc. to new officers by April 30th. This is to ensure the new officers gain experience from the previous year’s events and logistics.
