Anyone involved in the conduct of research at all Indiana University campuses (and all affiliates) is welcome to attend.

Financial Audits: What Agencies Target

OH, HOW WE LOVE TO BE AUDITED!!!  Well, maybe that is not your attitude when notified of a pending audit, but what does an audit require and how can we best benefit from the experience? These and other questions will be answered in this session that will also deal with following aspects of an audit:

- Those who may audit university grants

- How to respond to an audit notice

- The subject of financial and other audits

- The correct treatment of auditors

Intellectual Property Policy and Licensing

The Indiana University Research and Technology Corporation (IURTC) is a non-profit corporation that supports IU. Through a contractual arrangement with IU, IURTC manages and markets IU’s intellectual property. The session will cover an overview of IURTC, IU’s Intellectual Property Policy, the basics of patent and copyright protection, invention disclosures, and technology licensing.

ERA: Your Journey Continues with Budget

Take the next step in the electronic research administration journey and experience the ERA Budget Module first hand. In this computer lab session, participants will have the opportunity to explore the following budget module topics:

SIS and Graduate Student Issues
UL 1126 Level 1 
This session will cover the financial reports available for SIS data, and how to use these reports to ensure that fellowship stipends, fee remissions and scholarship payments are being processed against the correct accounts for the proper time periods. IUIE reports will be reviewed, including the Bursar Accounting Feed Detail Report and the GL Accounting Feed Extract.

The session will also provide opportunity for the participants to gain an understanding of the system and procedures that have been put into place to ensure that student financial transactions are taking place in a timely and accurate manner.

Policy Made Practical: Understanding Conflict of Interest

This session provides an overview of Indiana University's policy on financial conflicts of interest and the new COI electronic reporting system, developed and managed by Research and Sponsored Programs, that is now being used by most schools on the IUPUI campus. A series of case studies will be offered to provide an in-depth analysis of exemplary and problematic conflict of interest scenarios. Participants will learn how to:

- Identify and manage potential conflicts of interests
- Access the COI reporting system
- Ensure approval for sponsored projects

In this session, participants will explore a variety of electronic search tools available to identify funding agencies and grant opportunities. Discover why you should use the Community of Science Profile System, an internationally known database that includes over 500,000 faculty researchers and graduate students. Learn how to develop your online profile, keep it updated, and use it to secure grant funding.

A-21 Effort Reporting — Policy and Current Developments
