David Weiden joined the Department of Political Science in 2007, coming from Illinois State University, where he was Assistant Professor of Political Science and Director of the Legal Studies program. He teaches courses in law and courts, American politics, and public policy, as well as being the Director of the Paralegal Studies program.

He is the co-author of Sorcerers’ Apprentices: 100 Years of Law Clerks at the United States Supreme Court (New York University Press, 2006), which examines the institution of the Supreme Court law clerk from an empirical and historical perspective. This book has been discussed and reviewed in such outlets as the Washington Post, The New Republic, Law and Politics Book Review, University of Chicago Law Review, and the Michigan Law Review. His current research focuses upon judicial decision-making at the high courts of the United States, Canada and Australia.

Professor Weiden received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, his law degree from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law, and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, where his dissertation was entitled, “Judicial Decision-Making in Comparative Perspective: Ideology, Law and Activism in Constitutional Courts.” In addition, he is a licensed attorney, and is admitted to practice before Colorado state courts, the United States District Court for Colorado, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. David lives in Carmel, Indiana, with his wife and two sons.
