Brian Vargus is a Professor of Political Science at IUPUI. He holds
degrees from the University of California and Indiana University.
A former Fulbright Scholar to Japan, Dr. Vargus has served on the
faculties of several universities. Among his consultative appointments
have been the US Department of Justice, Eli Lilly Company, Ameritech,
Public Service Indiana, several law firms and political candidates from
both major parties. He is a speaker for public service groups and has
been quoted by media outlets such as CBS National News, the New York
Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, and others. For many years he
served as political analyst for the local CBS network affiliate in
Indianapolis. He can be heard frequently on radio station WIBC-AM 1070.
His current research is focused on interpersonal trust, political
support, and voting decisions and his work continues on the role of
polls in politics. Former director of a major survey center, Brian
teaches courses on research methods, public opinion, political behavior,
and campaigns. Through his own firm, he has managed campaigns and
consulted on campaigns at national, state and local levels for both
major parties.
Dr. Vargus has authored several research reports on the outcomes of
survey research for a wide variety of political, governmental and
academic audiences. Beyond political behavior, he is an authority on the
life and work of the author Jack London.
