Indiana Eating Disorders Coalition 2007 Year End Summary

These are just the highlights of what we've done since IEDC was first established in Nov. 2007:

- In Dec '06 we began our correspondence with Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD), and in May of '07 we became ANAD's first state coalition affiliate.

- In Jan '07 we issued a press release encouraging educational facilities not to promote weight loss programs (especially Indiana's INShape).

- In Feb of '07 we were invited to attend a meeting of the Eating Disorders Task Force of Indiana (a state wide group of professionals, many of whom are now on this list!).  We were made to feel very welcome, and have an on-going relationship with the EDTFI.

- We also set up a web-site in Feb '07; http://www.iupui.edu/~philosop/iedc.htm

- Also in Feb '07, we were well represented (and handed out literature and information) at the first Eating Disorders Conference at Notre Dame University.

- In March of '07 we coordinated an information fair at IUPUI in conjunction with National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

- In December of '07 we issued a press release for treatment providers containing helpful suggestions for facilitating recovery.

- IEDC members facilitated the creation of two new support groups in Indianapolis, and they also set up an information booth at a couple health fairs; one was at Cardinal Fitness in Indianapolis, and the other was for a fair sponsored by the Indiana State Department of Health.

- We advocated on behalf of the Wellstone Mental Health Parity legislation by contacting our
representatives and also by contributing written testimony.  In addition, several of us have (by invitation) been representing IEDC at ANAD's monthly Public Policy Committee meetings where matters of national legislation and advocacy strategies are planned.

- The IEDC has been featured in the Columbus (IN) newspaper - The Republic; we were also featured in Purdue University's Alumni Magazine; and we were regularly featured in the EDReferral.com newsletter for most of this last year.

- We now receive a steady stream of calls from people seeking contact information about
treatment providers in Indiana as well as more general awareness information about eating
disorders.

- Finally, we grew in number; we are now 65 people strong!

That's a heck of a first year!  Heart-felt hanks to everyone for all the hard work!
