Nathan Houser, Director and General Editor (Professor of Philosophy). As director and general editor
Houser guides the operation of the Project, both administrative and
editorial. He maintains general control and oversight of all Project
operations and he retains immediate responsibility for some tasks, principally
planning, Project development, deciding what to publish (with others),
and composition of some of the historical introductions. He works closely
with De Tienne on manuscript organization and chronology and with Eller
on the selection of copy-texts. |

|
Jonathan Eller, Textual Editor
(Professor of English). Eller traces text genealogies,
supervises collations, selects copy-texts, proofreads copy-text against
source documents (at holding archives), edits Peirce texts according
to guidelines deriving from standard textual theory, keeps the record
of editorial interventions, and writes the essay on editorial method
for each volume. The textual editor is the principal interpreter of
modern textual theory for Project operations. Eller also serves as the
Project's contact person with I. U. Press. |
|
Albert C. Lewis, Associate Editor
(Ph.D.).
Lewis is a specialist in the history of science and mathematics with
experience in textual editing (formerly with the Bertrand Russell Editorial
Project). He is responsible for manuscript reorganization and textual
annotation for the many scientific and mathematical writings that run
to the end of Peirce's life. He works with contributing editors and
prepares annotations on the scientific and mathematical texts. He also
works with Kaposta to develop hypertext tagged transcriptions and SGML
mark-up procedures for both letterpress and electronic versions of the
critical edition. |
|
(Assistant
Professor of Philosophy). De Tienne coordinates the reorganization and
dating of manuscripts, helps set tables of contents, and prepares the
volume by volume catalogues of Peirce's writings. He works with the general
editor on archival searches for Peirce documents. He coordinates contacts
with contributing editors and is in charge of the preparation of notes
to the text (historical, explanatory, and bibliographical). De Tienne
is the archivist for all correspondence (electronic or post) with contributing
editors. He is responsible for the description and selection of alterations
to be published in each volume, and for the preparation of the index.
|
|
(Ph.D.). De Waal is responsible for the reconstruction and dating of manuscripts
for future volumes (establishing the most mature text that is closest
to Peirce's hand, separating the different draft versions, and determining
their sequence), and he sets the preliminary tables of contents. De Waal
is further in charge of the annotations for the volumes and of the bibliographical
research. De Waal is also Program Editor for the History of American Thought
series of Thoemmes Press and Assistant Editor for the Vanderbilt Library
of American Philosophy of Vanderbilt University Press. |
|
Joseph Kaposta, Editorial Associate
Kaposta is iin charge of the transcription operation. He works with
Lewis on the development of an SGML mark-up system for PEP that will
support a single hypertext editing process for both letterpress and
electronic publication. Kakposta teams with the textual editor for the
source archives proofreading (the second full proofreading). He maintains
each volume's electronic files from transcription to layout. Kaposta
then works with Lewis and De Waal to produce the electronic files of
the entire volume that are sent to the printer. |

Luise H. Morton, Research Associate
(Ph.D.). Morton joined the Project in the fall of 1998 to assist in
proofreading transcriptions and to research and write annotations for
the texts of volumes in progress. She did her doctoral studies in philosophy
at The Ohio State University and is presently a lecturer in philosophy
at IUPUI. |
