The Ethics of Terminology
Nineteenth Selection, pp. 263266.
MS 478. [This is the second section of the "Syllabus" (pp. 1014 of the printed version); it was published in CP 2.219226.]
Origin of the Text
Peirce discusses the ethics of terminology in a number of manuscripts. An earlier list of eight rules can be found at the beginning of MS 434 (1902). In selection 24, the argument is central to Peirce's coining of "pragmaticism."
