IUPUI is Indiana's premier urban research university. The campus enrolls more than 30,000 students in 21 schools and academic units.
International students and scholars who plan to travel outside of the U.S. must have their I-20 or DS-2019 documents signed by an Advisor in the Office of International Affairs prior to their departure.
To re-enter the U.S. after travel abroad, you should have with you the following four documents:
1. A valid passport (valid for at least 6 months beyond the date you expect to return to the U.S.).
2. A valid I-94 card. (Your current I-94 will be collected as you leave the U.S. You will receive a new one when you reenter the U.S. See EXCEPTION A below.)
3. A valid I-20 or DS-2019 (recently signed by an Advisor in the Office of International Affairs).
4. A U.S. visa stamp with a least one entry remaining valid for the date of return.
EXCEPTION A: For travel to Canada or Mexico for less than 30 days has recently become more coplicated, please reference: How to Apply for a Visa in Canada or Mexico.
EXCEPTION B: Canadian citizens never need visa stamps to enter the U.S. Proof of Canadian citizenship may also be presented instead of a passport.
If your visa is no longer valid, you will need to request revalidation from the U.S. embassy in your country of destination. This is required unless you are traveling to Canada or Mexico for 30 days or less. You should discuss this with an Advisor in the Office of International Affairs. You may need to carry additional documentation with you such as transcripts, letters from academic advisors, financial documents, proof of health insurance, etc.
If you have questions about any of this information, contact the Office of International Affairs at 274-7000.
ENJOY YOUR TRIP!
