If English is not your native language, you must demonstrate proficiency in English prior to admission. IUPUI accepts any one of the following as satisfactory proof of English proficiency:
- TOEFL score of 500 or higher (paper version/PBT) or 180 or higher (computer-based version/CBT) IUPUI’s school code for the TOEFL is 1325.
- A grade of 5.5 or higher on the Cambridge International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
- A GCSE or GCE Ordinary Level subject pass in English Language (grades A-C) from one of the British examinations boards.
- Successful completion of ELS Language Centers Level 109 Intensive Program.
- A grade of C or better in a course equivalent to IUPUI’s English W131, Elementary Composition I from an accredited college or university in the U.S.
- Students currently residing in Indiana may take the IUPUI English as a Second Language (ESL) Placement Test. Placement at level G011 or higher is required for students who will need an I-20 from IUPUI.
- A bachelor’s or higher degree from a country designated by IUPUI as predominantly native-English speaking.
