Undergraduate English Language Requirements
 
If English is not your native language, you must demonstrate proficiency in English prior to admission. IUPUI accepts any one of the following as satisfactory proof of English proficiency:
  • TOEFL score of 500 or higher (paper version/PBT) or 180 or higher (computer-based version/CBT) IUPUI’s school code for the TOEFL is 1325.
  • A grade of 5.5 or higher on the Cambridge International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
  • A GCSE or GCE Ordinary Level subject pass in English Language (grades A-C) from one of the British examinations boards.
  • Successful completion of ELS Language Centers Level 109 Intensive Program.
  • A grade of C or better in a course equivalent to IUPUI’s English W131, Elementary Composition I from an accredited college or university in the U.S.
  • Students currently residing in Indiana may take the IUPUI English as a Second Language (ESL) Placement Test. Placement at level G011 or higher is required for students who will need an I-20 from IUPUI.
  • A bachelor’s or higher degree from a country designated by IUPUI as predominantly native-English speaking.
